Scholarship Name: The Bernard C. Campbell Scholarship

Deadline: Wednesday, March 8, 2017 – 3:00 p.m.
Background: The Bernard C. Campbell Scholarship was established November 11, 1999 to
honor Dr. Bernard C. Campbell for his many years of leadership to the students,
staff and patrons of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. The scholarship was
announced during a reception in honor of the 50th anniversary of the district’s reorganization. Dr. Campbell had a 39-year career with the R-7 school district, including 37 years as superintendent.
Purpose: Members of the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation wish to recognize and
financially support the higher education of future graduating seniors from Lee’s
Summit public high schools who possess a willingness and eagerness to serve their
school and community while accomplishing academic achievement
Number of Recipients: One recipient from Lee’s Summit High School, one recipient from Lee’s Summit North High School and one from Lee’s Summit West High School.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000 per year, renewable for 4 years
Guidelines: a. The recipient must be a graduating senior from a Lee’s Summit public high
school and must have attended school in Lee’s Summit the entire school year.
b. The recipient must plan to pursue a program of study at an accredited institu-
tion of higher education requiring at least four semesters of academic study.
c. The recipient shall in no way be limited by gender, race or religious affiliation.
d. The recipient must have been involved in civic, community and extra-curricu-
lar school activities.
e. The recipient must have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5
or higher during his/her high school career.
Process: The Selection Committee, consisting of three-four people (two Foundation
members and appropriate counselors), will review the applications and, if
necessary, interview the candidates and obtain any additional background
information.
Scholarship Payment: The Scholarship will be made by a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation
check payable jointly to the recipient and his or her choice of a higher
learning institution. To receive the scholarship check, recipient must send
proof of enrollment to Sheryl Franke, 301 NE Tudor Road, Lee's Summit, MO
64086.

been/are involved.
D. Please attach three (3) letters of recommendation from teachers.
