Answers to Sequence of Events (In order)
Sighet, Hungary
3. Elie is a thirteen-year old, religious boy from Sighet, Hungary. He wants to study Kabbalah with Moishe the Beadle against his father’s wishes.
19. Moishe the Beadle and foreign Jews are taken away by the Gestapo.
21. The Jews of Sighet are given restrictions and are forced to wear yellow stars.
5. Elie’s family is forced to move from their house to a small ghetto.
17. The Jews of Sighet are packed into a synagogue where they can’t leave and have to go to the restroom in the corners.
7. Cattle cars are packed 80 people per car to go to Auschwitz.
8. Mrs. Schacter yells in the train about fire. She is beaten by the Jews to keep quiet.
Birkenau
9. Elie sees the crematorium at the entrance to Birkenau.
14. The Wiesel family is separated forever when entering Birkenau.
1. Elie and his dad both pass the selection after being told to lie about their age.
11. Elie sees babies thrown into a fire pit.
16. Elie is tattooed with a number, and is shaved and stripped of his clothes.
22. Elie experiences the longest, most horrific night of his life.
23. Elie moves from Birkenau to Auschwitz I to wait to be assigned to a Kommando.
Auschwitz I
20. Elie waits around in Auschwitz by avoiding being chosen for the Kommandos.
13. Elie’s father is slapped by the gypsy guard after asking for the bathroom.
10. The Wiesels are marched from Auschwitz I to Buna.
Buna
18. Elie and his father are assigned to work in a factory sorting electrical parts.
6. Elie is forced to give up his gold crown after Franek beats his father for not knowing how to march.
2. Idek whips Elie in public after Elie witnesses him with a woman.
4. A prisoner is shot for trying to steal soup.
15. The young pipel is hung in front of the crowd. The soup tastes of corpses.
