- Review your career plans and decide which type of school is right for you
- Narrow your college list to 5-7 schools
- Request catalogs and admissions information
- Go to various scholarship sites to register for scholarships
- Begin draft for Apply Texas Essays
September
- List college application dates on your planner
- Sign up for SAT and ACT
- Have final draft essays for Apply Texas
- Find out which financial aid and scholarship applications your college choices require and when forms are due
- Apply for at least 2 scholarships
October
- Take ACT/SAT
- Work on Admissions essays
- Apply for at least 3 scholarships
- Have top 5 universities you want to apply for and dates for application
- Sign up on Apply Texas
- Get Resume completed
- Apply for at least 2 scholarships
November
- Take ACT/SAT
- Apply Texas – have information completed
- Have final draft for Apply Texas Essays
- Apply for at least 3 scholarships
December
- Request a PIN for FAFSA at
- Applied to universities
- Apply for at least 3 scholarships
January
- Complete and submit your FAFSA online at Try and submit your FAFSA as soon after January 1 as possible
- Keep copies of all forms
- Parents: Its helpful to get your income tax returns prepared early
- Apply for at least 3 scholarship
February
- Submit your FAFSA if you have not already done so
- Apply to any universities if you have not done so
- Apply for at least 3 scholarships

- If you submitted FAFSA, you should receive information about how to access your Student Aid Report (SAR) via email
- Contact each college you applied, to clarify and answer any financial aid questions
- Apply for at least 3 scholarships
April
- Watch the mail or your email for college acceptance and financial aid award notifications. Compare the financial aid awards you received
- Make your final decision
- Watch for important deadlines at your chosen college (hosing, dinning, etc.)
- Apply for at least 3 scholarships
May
- Take Advanced Placement (AP) examinations that are given
- Make sure final transcript has been sent to your college
- Sign up for Orientation to your prospective college/university
