Equipment needed for exam:Pencil, 2 pens, ruler & colouring pencils

  1. Safety in the workshop

Make study notes on the correct dress and behaviour needed in the T&D workshop. Dress: Draw a picture of a student correctly dressed for the workshop. Label all correct procedures followed. E.g. wearing goggles, an apron, hair tied back, no jewellery. Behaviour: list safety rules for correct behaviour in a workshop.

  1. Tools & Equipment

Produce study notes in a table format for all the tools & equipment listed:Scroll Saw, Band Facer, pillar Drill, try square, marking gauge, hot wire strip heater, hammer, panel pins, sand paper, liquid solvent cement, PVA glue, soldering iron, wire snips, wire strippers, pliers.

Produce 3 mind maps using each material as your main theme. Properties, Examples & Uses should be discussed for each branch.

Plastics – Thermoplastics; Thermosetting plastics.

Produce a mind map using Plastics as your main theme. The individual branches should reflect detail about Thermoplastics; Thermosetting plastics. Know the difference between the different types of plastics and be able to list individual examples and uses of each.Describe the process ofShaping plastics; i.e. use of hot wire strip heater.

Wood – Be able to explain the properties, examples and uses of Hardwood, Softwood & Manufactured boards.

Metals – Ferrous & Non- ferrous metals

Know the difference between the different types of metals and be able to list individual examples and uses of each.

  1. Graphics

Practice using the square paper -oblique sketching and isometric paper - isometric sketching. All drawings must be three dimensional, shaded and coloured with notes to explain your ideas.
