FFA Career Development Events (CDE’s)

Fall Leadership CDEs:

Team CDEs

Parliamentary Procedure – 7 person team; contest composed of taking a written test, presentation of proper parliamentary law, oral questions, minutes

Jr. Parliamentary Procedure – 7-9th graders only; same as senior contest, except no test or minutes

Marketing Plan – 3 person team; submit written proposal for you marketing plan; present your plan to judges and answer questions

Ag Issues Forum – 3-7 person team; discuss an issue amongst yourselves with judges in the room

Individual CDEs

Creed Speaking – 7-9th graders only; recite the FFA Creed from memory; answer questions about your interpretation of the creed

Job Interview – submit a cover letter and resume to Mrs. Eide, fill out a job application, complete a mock interview with judges present, write a thank you not following interview

Ag Broadcasting/Journalism – read news stories off a script, make up your own ag-related product and present a commercial on it

Prepared Public Speaking – submit manuscript for a six to eight minute speech, present it to judges at the contest and answer questions

Extemporaneous Speaking – draw topics and pick one, write a 4-6 minute speech in 30 minutes, present your speech to judges and answer questions about your speech/topic

Agribusiness Salesmanship – sell a specified ag-related product to judges

Spring Production CDEs

Food Science – smell things to identify them, take a safety test, give a team presentation

Ag Communications – 3 person team; submit written proposal for your communications plan, present your plan to judges and answer questions, take an editing test, and take a general knowledge test

Ag Mechanics – take multiple tests, identify tools/machinery parts, and complete a team problem (only at some contests)

Floriculture – take a written test, complete a flower ID section, sometimes take a mathematical problems test, make a floral arrangement, and complete a bill of sale for arrangement

Natural Resources – take a written test and sometimes a problems test; identify insects, trees, mammals, fish, waterfowl, wood products, and other birds

Ag Business Management – take a general knowledge test, take a problem-solving test

Dairy Foods – identify milk defects and cheeses, take a written test

Dairy Cattle Evaluation – Take a written test, judge dairy cattle, sometimes give oral reasons

Livestock Evaluation – judge beef cattle, sheep, and swine; sometimes give oral reasons

Crops/Agronomy – take a written test, identify seeds and plants

Horse Evaluation – take a written test, judge horses, sometimes give oral reasons

Meats evaluation – identify different cuts of meat, take a written test***Only at some contests***

Nursery/Landscape – take a written test, identify nursery and landscaping tools, complete a scale drawing of a landscape

Ag Sales – 4 person team competition, take a written test, each member complete a practicum, each member sell an individual product, complete a team presentation
