POSITION SUMMARY
The Research Data Analyst is responsible for data extraction and analysis from the BORN Information System (BIS) and linked BORN datasets held at the Institute of Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). The analyst will be responsible for: working with research teams and data requestors to clarify data needs; preparation/presentation of those data in different formats (tables, graphs, reports, slides);; development, creation, and maintenance of project and analysis related documentation; supporting the improvement of analysis processes; and participating in ongoing professional development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Collaborate with the Sunnybrook Women and Babies Program, the Toronto Academic Health Sciences – OB network BORN and ICES team members to perform aggregate and record-level analysis for quality improvement and research projects
· Assist in planning and developing epidemiological and/or bio-statistical surveillance and research studies.
· Contribute expertise to the development of epidemiological research studies – including methodologies, approaches and models.
· Manage projects, resolve methodological and other problems, and ensure appropriate analysis, documentation and interpretation of the data/results.
§ Write analysis queries and programs to perform data processing tasks, perform data extraction and conduct analyses
§ Test written programs and verify data analyses against other data reports from the ICES/BORN Information System
§ Interact with other project team members to ensure that data is complete, accurate, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
§ Assist or develop systems for organizing data to analyze, identify and report trends.
§ Prepare data output formats as requested
§ Maintain records of analysis activities, and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports, as required.
§ Match/link/aggregate data from multiple sources and experience working with administrative datasets (e.g. CIHI) or other perinatal data (Canadian Perinatal Surveillance System, provincial perinatal programs)
§ Writes or edits comprehensive study reports/papers/publications with findings, conclusions
§ Make decisions about appropriate statistical tests as required and run statistical analyses
§ Perform database edits.
§ Execute data validation programs and resolve data discrepancies.
§ Ensure compliance with Sunnybrook/ICES/BORN and institutional privacy guidelines. Develop, implement, and maintain security procedures for users and system administrators to ensure the protection of confidential hospital and patient data.
§ Ensure accurate and detailed documentation concerning how and why analysis decisions are made throughout the course of a research project
§ Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all Sunnybrook and SRI corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
§ Perform work in accordance with the BORN/Sunnybrook/ICES privacy standards/regulations
§ Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
§ Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
§ University Degree in epidemiology or statistics or equivalent (i.e., university degree with a concentration of courses in statistics) (Essential)
§ Proficient with common data management software and statistical analysis packages such as SAS (Preferred), SPSS or other statistical software and programming languages (Essential)
§ Preference for candidates with minimum 3 years experience working in an analysis position; however, will consider applicants with less experience with demonstrated strong analytical skills.” (Essential)
§ Minimum 3 years experience working in an analysis position (Essential)
§ Experience with calculation of basic epidemiologic measures (i.e., rates, risks, rate/risk ratios, 95% confidence intervals) (Essential)
§ Clinical health research experience (maternal-child preferred) (Preferred)
§ Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office) (Essential)
§ Excellent attention to detail (Essential)
§ Knowledge of ethics and regulatory requirements of research involving human subjects. (Essential)
§ Ability to prioritize with good time management skills (Essential)
§ Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English required. (Essential)
§ Experience with GIS analysis (Preferred)
