IoT platform “machines.cloud” by STW makes mobile machines cloud-compatible

Over the course of time, the topic of interconnectivity has become a central component of our lives. Contacts are linked in social and professional networks; we can connect with friends and acquaintances at anytime and anywhere using “Apps” on our smartphone, and can procure relevant information for ourselves. What has already become indispensable in private spheres is now entering industry as “digitalization”. Not only existing processes can thus be monitored and optimized, but also the implementation of completely new products and services becomes possible.

With the IoT platform “machines.cloud” provided by Sensor-Technik Wiedemann GmbH (STW), diverse digital applications can now also be implemented in the field of Ground Support Equipment. In the machines in operation on airfield aprons, data is collected using the connectivity and data management modules TC3G and TC1, and pre-processed if required. Connected via cable or wireless technologies, data can be directly called up on-site from the machine. Likewise, machines can be interconnected with one another. Furthermore, it is possible to send information to the “machines.cloud” platform or to other cloud services with an Internet connection via Wi-Fi or mobile phone.

As a specialist for the automation, digitalization and electrification of mobile machines, STW provides user and device management via a web interface with “machines.cloud” which can be operated from a PC, Tablet or Smartphone. The data sent via the on-board platforms TC3G or TC1 can be visualized, can serve as a basis for Geo-Localization or can trigger alarm signals. One of the most important features is the Live-View, using which data can be depicted in real-time in freely designable SCADA widgets.

Whilst most telematics systems today stop at the visualization of machine data, STW takes this a step further and also provides the matching infrastructure for process integration and the automation of workflows. The connection of “machines.cloud” to third party systems is enabled via a REST interface. As a result, ERP/CRM systems, or also existing logistics software, can be supplied with significant data almost in real-time.

Numerous standard tools and a flexible and open ecosystem of third party systems and services form the basis for the implementation of various projects at minimal expenses and with minimized risk, so-called “Rapid Prototyping”. This open approach of "no Vendor-Lock-In" provides the necessary investment security. STW and its strong partner network advises and supports customers with the implementation of their projects, services and business models.
