Hours of Operation:
Library staff provides access during all hours of instructional day and a minimum of 12 hours a week before & after school and/or weekends.
District Budget for Books:
Receives from campus or district budget an amount equal to the number of students’ times 1.50 multiplied by the cost of a book.
Number of Items (books, audiovisual, software):
Provides a balanced and current collection of at least 12,000 items or at least 24 items per student at elementary; at least 20 items per student at middle school level; at least 16 items per student at high school level, whichever is greater.
Age of Collection:
Maintains average age of collection of less than 11 years with special attention for specific disciplines (Social Sciences, Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, etc.)
Number of computers in library and replacement cycle:
Number of computers in the library = 4 or less students per computer based on library capacity. Replacement cycle is every 3 years.
Electronic Databases & Internet Access:
Provides electronic subscriptions to online databases for newspapers and magazines, reference books, and primary sources. Provides Internet access. Provides 3 additional subscriptions to electronic databases at elementary level & 6 at secondary level.
Print Magazines:
Elementary campuses: at least 20 subscriptions
Middle School campuses: at least 45 subscriptions
High School campuses: at least 65 subscriptions
Print Newspapers:
Provides at least one local and three major metropolitan area newspaper in print format.
Computers for Library Staff:
Provides one computer for each staff member administrative needs.
Provides two computers dedicated for circulation and one computer dedicated for teacher use.
Library Space for 501 – 2000 Students:
At least 8000 square feet plus 3.0 square feet for each student in excess of 500.
Summer Access to Library Resources:
Provides access to school library resources a minimum of 2 days per week during summer vacation months.
Professional Development:
Participates in regional, state, or national conferences on an annual basis. Submits program proposals and/or presents workshops at conferences.
