Comments/Explanations

*Apprentice Vanessa Medhurst notified Stewards that she would be unable to fulfil her engagement tonight due to illness. Ms Medhurst was advised that she must submit a medical certificate prior to riding again.

Jockey Brendon McCoull pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 120(b) for accepting rides for which he was subsequently found to be overweight. Mr McCoull was fined the sum $200.

RACE 1 –NEIL BUCKBY LANDROVER CLASS 2 HANDICAP–1400 METRES

Prior to the race Rodney Seymour, trainer of Geegees Drummerboy, notified that the gelding would be ridden more forward tonight in an attempt to race in a similar manner as it did on 9thAugust 2015 at Devonport where it led. Geegees Drummerboy was ridden accordingly.

Rustical jumped awkwardly and shortly after Eternal Speed shifted out away from that mare and brushed with Sentinel.

Arkadashim was slow into stride.

Near the 1000 metres Sentinel shifted in and made contact with Mundine.

Approaching the 400 metres Eternal Speed (Boris Thornton) attempted a run where there was insufficient room between Sentinel and Luxembourg. Shortly after, Eternal Speed made contact with Luxembourg and took that gelding slightly outwards off its course. Boris Thornton was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding and notified that he would be expected to ensure there was a full run for his mounts to improve into when in similar circumstances.

Between the 500 and 300 metres Rustical was unable to obtain a clear run.

From the 400 metres to the 50 metres Before All was unable to obtain a clear run.

Between the 200 and 100 metres Varian had some difficulty obtaining a clear run.

Kelvin Sanderson, rider of Luxembourg which performed below market expectations, could offer no explanation for the performance other that the gelding raced wide and may not have backed up from its most recent run.

RACE 2 – MELBOURNE CUP TOUR 2015 3YO & UPWARDS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE- 1200 METRES

Following a confirmed telephone call from trainer Glenn Stevenson who reported that Like The Wolf was lame behind, the filly was declared a late scratching at 2.55 pm. Glenn Stevenson was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Like The Wolf racing again.

Approaching the 1000 metres Parisian Lush and Cameo Kiss both became unbalanced after bumping.

Near the 1100 metres Commanding Dash (Kyle Maskiell) got its head up when being restrained and shortly after shifted in quickly towards Big Pegg which shifted in away from that mare and took Tara’s Gem in onto Rialto Jess. Virac which was racing to the inside of that filly had to be severely checked and almost fell after clipping the heels of Rialto Jess. As Stewards were not fully satisfied that the actions of Kyle Maskiell were the sole cause they took no further action other than to notify him that he should be mindful of when he elects to shift in abruptly and then race tightly to the outside of other runners. A post-race veterinary examination of Virac revealed no obvious abnormalities.

From the 900 metres Commanding Dash commenced to over-race for some distance.

Passing the 900 metres Rialto Jess shifted out slightly and took Tara’s Gem out onto Big Pegg which was restrained.

On the latter part of the home turn Commanding Dash was reluctant to improve into a run between Big Pegg and Magnacash.

David Pires, rider of Shutterfly, was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding, the particulars being that near the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift out contacting Big Pegg which became unbalanced and shifted out, checking Commanding Dash. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a low level. David Pires’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of one (1) Tasmanian race meeting to commence at midnight 7th October 2015 and expire at midnight 14thOctober 2015.

RACE 3 – LAUNCESTON TOYOTA 3YO & UPWARDS C,G & E MAIDEN PLATE- 1200 METRES

Dropaclanger and Hirvonen were both slow into stride.

Buster raced awkwardly for a short distance near the 800 metres.

Approaching the 800 metres Foxy Income shifted in away from Paleface Presto and raced awkwardly.

Hirvonen was held up for a short distance near the 400 metres.

Belmont hung in throughout. Connections were advised that a warning has been issued against the gelding’s racing manners.

Approaching the winning post Claiborne King shifted in slightly inconveniencing Becerikli.

RACE 4 – NEIL BUCKBY SUBARU BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP- 1200 METRES

Wonzzee was incorrectly shown in the race book as not wearing blinkers when this mare is actually a blinkered horse. This information was disseminated via social media and the oncourse broadcaster.

Near the 400 metres Wonzzee was restrained when tightened for room by Our Casanova (Raquel Clark) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. As Stewards were not comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered by Wonzzee warranted a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding, they issued a severe reprimand to Raquel Clark and notified her that she must ensure that she is sufficiently clear of others when shifting ground.

Keukenhof layed in at various stages from the 400 metres.

Approaching the 200 metres Raquel Clark rider of Our Casanova accidentally dropped her whip.

RACE 5 – FIELD FAMILY CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Trainer Scott Brunton was fined the sum of $50 under LR 7.5 for submitting an incomplete stable return for By Order omitting the addition of blinkers. By Order was granted permission to wear blinkers and this was disseminated via social media and the oncourse broadcaster.

O’Rayo (NZ) attempted to sit down in the barriers prior to the start. Connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

Another Charlee and Sommelier Pete were both fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Connections of both horses were advised that each will need to complete a satisfactory trial before racing again.

Near the 600 metres Another Charlee was restrained after improving up onto the heels of Flight Mode.

O’Rayo (NZ) was held up for a short distance after passing the 400 metres.

Subsequent to the race Bulent Muhcu, rider of O’Rayo (NZ), and Troy Blacker, trainer of the gelding, viewed the start of the race as they were concerned that the gelding may have been denied a fair start. It was established that O’Rayo (NZ) attempted to sit down prior to the start and then jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 6 – LEIGH FLAHERTY CITY CARS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP–1400 METRES

Poucher had to be resaddled behind the barriers prior to the start.

Moonless was slow to begin (1L).

Near the 300 metres Huss Style was inconvenienced when Moonless shifted out to improve.

As Apprentice Victor Wong had left the course an inquiry was adjourned into the reasons for Tambro’s Game being tightened near the 1200 metres.

RACE 7 – UNBREAKABLE TOYOTA HILUX BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP– 1600 METRES

Palzago and Niloufar were slow to begin (1L).

Near the 400 metres By Far which was weakening had to be checked when tightened for room between Niloufar and Aventador which shifted out slightly. As Stewards could not attribute the overall tightening to any one rider no further action was taken.

RACE 8 – LAUNCESTON MITSUBISHI BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES

Adam Trinder trainer of Sun Disk made a submission in relation to the gelding being withdrawn due to the track upgrade. Mr Trinder’s submission asked for consideration of the fact that the gelding had very limited form on firm tracks and given it was in the last race tonight the track, in his opinion, would continue to dry out and Sun Disk would be unable to perform to the best of its ability. Stewards accepted his submission and withdrew Sun Disk at 2.55 pm.

Mehmet Ulucinar, rider of Shipspotting, was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding, the particulars being that near the 1800 metres he permitted his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of Sandeep resulting in that gelding being tightened onto Bitter Dan with both horses being severely unbalanced which resulted in Kyle Maskiell, rider of Bitter Dan, almost being dislodged. Stewards deemed the interference to be of a high level and carelessness to be of a low level due to both Sandeep and Bitter Dan overreacting when being restrained by their riders. Mehmet Ulucinar’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period oftwo (2) Tasmanian race meetings commencing at the expiration of a current suspension midnight 17 October 2015 and expiring at midnight 28 October 2015.

Sandeep overraced for some distance from the 1700 metres.
