  • Smart Card Authentication Deployment
Part of a team that planned, executed and documented a move from the Active Directory username / password authentication to a more secure PKI encryption based smart card authentication system.
  • SolarWinds Migration
Moved the company from the stand-alone Storage Resource Monitor (SRM) Profiler to the new, integrated SRM Orion module. Improved reporting for SRM and Network Performance Monitor.
  • SolarWinds Analysis
Analyzed the existing SolarWinds installation and an expanded system designed to replace other management applications and provide a view into infrastructure issues across network, application and storage technologies. Recommendations included expanding the SolarWinds system to three data centers from one and to five polling engines from two. We provided detailed SQL Server hardware specifications. The existing application suite included Network Performance Monitor, Network Configuration Manager, and Network Traffic Analyzer . We recommended adding Server and Application Manager and Storage Resource Monitor to provide a comprehensive view into all infrastructure technologies.
  • SolarWinds Deployment
Installed SolarWinds' Network Performance Monitor and Network Traffic Analyzer for Idaho Department of Education. Revised Cisco equipment configuration to support deployment, created custom views and administrative accounts and trained administrative personnel on the application's use. Created custom network maps allowing management to assess at a glance the health of the network. Migrated VMware servers from vCenter 4.0 to 5.5.

  • SolarWinds and Network Engineer
For the Network Group at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), architected, prototyped and deployed a network management system comprised of SolarWinds applications. Installed Network Performance Manager, Network Configuration Manager, and Netflow Traffic Analyzer. Also prototyped, but did not deploy, the Server and Application Manager. Used Policy Reporter to audit Cisco switches for compliance to security regulations, e.g NIST 800-53. Developed comprehensive network topology maps covering all twelve INL campuses. Regularly pushed scripted IOS configuration changes to 250 switches. Worked with So larWinds engineers in the development of an End Points report that eventually became the User Device Tracker application. The Orion application suite replaced both HP Openview and CiscoWorks saving money and providing vastly more effective network management. For the Desktop Group, researched, architect for desktop virtualization proposal on a team of three. Working with subject matter experts, created security standards for Cisco, web servers, SQL databases.
  • SolarWinds and Network Engineer
Replaced CiscoWorks with Solarwinds Orion and Cirrus network management applications. Wireless deployment project with secure 802.11 wireless in fifteen locations. Also, participated in development and implementation of best security practices. Implemented major network management application for Sarbanes Oxley compliance, and for standardizing security-hardened configurations on routers and switches company-wide.
