Objective 1.0: Selecting, Marketing, and Hosting Courses through the Parent University Program

Goal 1: Liaisons and advocates will be able to create a needs assessment for their schools and select courses through Parent University to host at their school sites.

Goal 2: Liaisons and advocates will learn the strategies and expectations to marketing their selected courses and hosting the course as well as completing registration and evaluation data.

Goal 3: Liaisons and advocates will be able to utilize and understand how to request and acquire ESL Communication assistance for programs within their school.

Objective 2.0: Increasing parental awareness and involvement to increase student achievement.

Goal 1: Liaisons and advocates will learn the components of how to increase the capacity of schools to partner with families through utilizing/creating a Parent Teacher Association, Parent Involvement Team, and Community Resources and Partners.

Goal 2: Liaisons and advocates will be taught the logistics of the Family and Parent Workshop to be able to go back to their schools and provide professional development to faculty and staff.

Objective 3.0: Effective Parent Communication using Data

Goal 1: Liaisons and advocates will be able to identify, use, and create Parent Assistant reports, School Improvement Data, Parent-Teacher Conference information, and Learning Compact information to increase student achievement.

Goal 2: Liaisons and advocates will be able to create and use communication logs and other reporting logs that identify parental and family dynamics to increase parental awareness in order to increase student achievement.

Objective 4.0: Curriculum Communication and Preparing for the End of Grade and End of Course Testing

Goal 1: Liaisons and advocates will learn the components of EOC’s and EOG’s and be able to provide parents and families with resources to improve student readiness for testing and other assessments.

Goal 2: Liaisons and advocates will learn the components of new curriculums and changes in assessment within the school district to be able to communicate this information to parents and families.

Credit Handbook

Overview of professional development requirements

1.  All participants must register for the course in MYPD. Registration will be available by February 11, 2010.

2.  All participants must complete all homework requirements listed below and turn it in to Fahnie Shaw at courier #835 by May 31, 2010. Turn in all assignments together please. All assignments must be in the office by May 31, 2010, so plan accordingly. An email will be sent once your packet is received for your records.

3.  All participants must attend their PUL and Advocate monthly meetings to receive the credits required for face to face hours. Exceptions will be considered by the specialist for your learning community and must be documented as an exception by the specialist.

4.  Since 10 face to face hours are required to receive credit, the last 2 hours of completion besides the 8 hours from PUL and Advocate meetings will be obtained through working and attending the March 27, 2010 Family Fun and Information Day event. All professional development participants must work at least 2 hours for this event and will be provided with more details by March 12, 2010.

Assignments: All assignments should be completed using Microsoft Word. Make sure to have your name, title, email address, and your school at the top of all assignments.

Homework Assignment 2: Plan of Action 2010-2011

Create a Plan of Action for 2010-2011 school year to increase parental involvement. Be sure to identify the following:

·  PLUS, MINUS, DELTA (Accomplishments, Challenges, and Plan for Improvement 2010-2011)

·  School population (include languages identified)

·  What is your goal for participation in parent-teacher conferences – how do you plan to achieve it?

·  Participation in Learning Compacts – how do you plan to achieve your goal?

·  How do you plan to reach underserved – hard to reach parents and provide them with information to help their children in school

Homework Assignment 3: Parent Summer and Extended Learning Resource Communication

·  Create a reading list for each grade level and share with parents

·  Create a resource list for parents: things families can do to enrich learning over the summer (i.e. camps, lessons, tutorial sessions, etc.). Provide names, locations, and contact numbers.
