Mineralogy and Petrology

Note: Table ES-2-1 is modified from Spry et al. (2007) and contains the lithology, location, and mineralogy of garnet-bearing rocks from the Broken Hill deposit from which garnet was analyzed for trace elements using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Table ES-2-2 contains the complete set of major and trace element compositions of garnet from these samples obtained by LA-ICP-MS. The data were obtained using an Agilent 7500 laser ablation system interfaced with a Merchantek EO-UV laser ablation system at Macquarie University, Sydney. Details of the methodology are given in the main text.
