(Deadline extended) / Alpha Phi Alpha MLK Scholarship: Scholarship for African-American males seeking a baccalaureate degree. Requirements: GPA of 2.5 or higher, active in both school and community. Application, official transcript, photo head shot, 2 letters of recommendation required. Pick up an application packet in the counseling office. Packet must be received by 10/25/16.
Ron Brown Scholar Program / 11/1/16 and 1/9/17 / Ron Brown Scholar Program: African-American seniors may be eligible for $10,000/yr renewable scholarship ($40,000 total). Applicants are evaluated on academic excellence, leadership potential, community service, & financial need. Must have made significant contributions to society. App requires essays, letters of rec, and transcript. Apply by 11/1/16 to be considered for this and other scholarships. To apply only for the Ron Brown Scholar Program, applications must be submitted by January 9, 2017. Go to www.ronbrown.org for details.
Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University / 11/15/16 / Danforth Scholars Program: Awards partial- and full-tuition renewable scholarship. To be considered, students must be nominated by a teacher by November 15th. Students must then submit scholarship application, short answers, essay, and transcript to the committee by 1/15/17. Student must also apply to Wash U. including essay, recommendations, and ACT or SAT scores by 1/15/17. Eligible students demonstrate strong academics, school/community involvement, and high moral character.
SP Scholarship / 11/15/16 / SP Scholarship: Awards 10 students - $10,000. Open to students who are 13 and older, will enroll in college in the US, and are legal residents of US or Puerto Rico. Applications can be found at:

Rockford Association for Minority Management (RAMM) Scholarship / 11/23/16 / Rockford Association for Minority Management (RAMM) Scholarship: African-American seniors. Must have a 2.75 cum GPA and plan to attend a 2- or 4- year college/university. Requires an official transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, and an essay. Apply online at:

Rockford Association for Minority Management Rockford Fire Department Scholarship / 11/23/16 / Rockford Association for Minority Management-Rockford Fire Department Scholarship: Open to African-American seniors enrolled in a Winnebago County School. Must have a 2.75 cum GPA and plan to enter a career in the fire service, fire protection or prevention. Requires an official transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, and essay. Apply online at:

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program / 11/30/16 / Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program: Open to top seniors with significant unmet financial need seeking to attend the nation’s best 4-year colleges. Will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Students compete for up to $40,000/year. Must have cum unweighted GPA of 3.5+, ACT of 26+. Apply at www.jkcf.org/scholarships.
Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship / 11/30/16 / Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship: Open to seniors who are citizens of US and are planning to pursue a 4-year degree. Must have taken the ACT before Nov. 5, 2016. Evaluated on scholarship, leadership, community involvement, and financial need (although no min or max is specified). Awards 500 4-year scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $12,500/yr. Online application can be found at www.elks.org/enf/scholars.
Sixt Scholars / 11/30/16 / Sixt Scholars: Awards 5 $5,000 scholarships. Open to seniors planning to enroll in a 2- or 4-year college/university. Must have GPA of 3.7+ to apply. Online application can be found at:

Andrew Flushe Scholarship / 11/30/16 / Andrew Flushe Scholarship: Awards 2 at $500 each. Open to seniors who have been accepted into a college, university, or trade school. Scholarship is designed to raise awareness of texting and driving. Must be a citizen or resident of US. Create your video and make sure it is no longer than 3 minutes. Upload your video to YouTube titledTexting and Driving Prevention Video. In the description of the video please include a link to www.andrewflushe.com/scholarship/.

Barbara Lotze Scholarships for Future Teachers / 12/1/16 / Barbara Lotze Scholarships for Future Teachers: Awards up to $2,000. Open to students pursuing or planning to pursue a career as a high school physics teacher. Must be a US citizen. 2/15/17 / Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois: Scholarship and training for students pursuing a degree in education. Receive tuition assistance of up to $23,000 at one of 53 participating Illinois schools. Students must major in education, have at least 2.5 cum GPA and ACT Composite of 22+ with 16+ on Writing portion. Selected students will participate in 4 summer Institute programs, have job placement assistance, & mentoring, and will work for at least 5 years in an Illinois School of Need. Kids’ Chance Inc., of Illinois Scholarship / 12/1/16 / Kids’ Chance Inc., of Illinois Scholarship: Open to students who have a parent who was killed or seriously injured as a result of a work related accident that meets the criteria of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act and that has resulted in demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be enrolled, accepted or applying for acceptance as a full-time or part-time student at an accrediteduniversity, college or technical school. Greenhouse Scholarship / 12/1/16 / Greenhouse Scholarship: Awards: $5,000 renewable or $2,000 flex funding. Also gives personal and professional support along with funding during all 4 years of college. Open to low income students who are academically driven, exceptional leaders, and compelled to help their communities. Must have an unweighted GPA of 3.5+ and have an annual household income no greater than $70,000. Must be planning to attend a 4-year college/university. National Space Club Scholarship / 12/2/16 / National Space Club Scholarship: Awards 1 $10,000. Open to seniors who have the intention of pursuing a career in the STEM field with a preference for those with space related interests. The National Space Club and Foundation gives one student the opportunity to give the keynote address at the National Space Club and Foundation's annual Goddard Memorial Dinner, one of the space industry's most prestigious gatherings. The student must intend to pursue a career in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields, be academically strong and excel in public speaking. AXA Achievement Scholarship / 12/15/2016 / AXA Achievement Scholarship: Scholarship for seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in activities in school, community or the workplace and will be attending a 2 or 4 year college/university next fall. Winners may be awarded $2,500, $10,000, or $25,000. Very competitive. Apps available online at www.axa-achievement.com.
NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award / 12/18/16 / NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award: 100 nonrenewable scholarships
ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 will be awarded to seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative (e.g., running their own officially established business). Applicants must have a strong academic record. Apply online at www.nfib.com/YEA.
JFK Profiles in Courage Essay Contest / 1/4/17 / JFK Profiles in Courage Essay Contest – Scholarship essay contest for 9-12th graders will award $500-20,000. Award doubled this year because it is the 100th anniversary of JFK’s birth. Essay should be creative and demonstrate the understanding of the book by John F. Kennedy Profiles of Courage. Must be an original essay of 700-1000 words about an act of political courage by an elected official (serving on or after 1917). More information available online at www.jfklibrary.org. GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program / 1/5/17 / GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program: In honor of the legacy of President Ronald Reagan, approximately 20 students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship will receive a $10,000 renewable scholarship. Must have a 3.0+ GPA and financial need. Apply online at www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships.
Mr. and Mrs. George W. Taylor Scholarship -University of Minnesota / 1/6/17 / Mr. and Mrs. George W. Taylor-University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering “Cost of Attendance” Four Year Scholarship: The value of this scholarship is estimated to be in excess of $100,000. Open to students planning to attend the University of Minnesota and major in Aerospace Engineering & Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science Engineering. Should have financial need (although not required), must be in top 10% of class, have ACT Composite of 30+, with Math score of 29+. Must be willing to work summers and perhaps Winter Breaks in a discipline that will use and enhance an engineering education. See Mrs. Grygiel in Room 234 for an application.
Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) / 1/10/17 / Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC): Full tuition scholarship and fees, allowance for books, and up to $5,000 stipend for students planning on attending four-year college. Students must meet physical standards, have a 2.5 GPA and ACT score of 19 or higher. Student agrees to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard). More information available at www.goarmy.com/rotc.
La Voz Latina Scholarship / 1/20/17 / La Voz Latina Scholarship: Open to high school graduates of Hispanic/Latino descent who reside in Winnebago, Boone, Stephenson, or Jo Daviess Counties, are enrolled in a post-secondary education program by the time award is granted, and have financial need. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Applicants will be evaluated based on: Academic achievements (includes review of transcripts, ACT/SAT scores, scholastic achievements and awards), level of involvement in school and community activities, completed description of projected financial needs as stated in part 2 of application, strength of essay written for application (limit of two pages with a legible font no smaller than 10pt, double spaced), and submission of at least two letters of recommendation (3-4 are encouraged with at least one of the letters written by a teacher, school counselor or administrator).
Scholarship winners will be expected to submit a suitable photo, attend YWCA Northwestern Illinois’ Leader Luncheon, and participate in one YWCA La Voz Latina youth volunteer project (4 hour commitment). YWCA Bright Future Scholarship / 1/20/17 / YWCA Bright Future Scholarship: Awards two $1,500 scholarships. Open to female seniors who are residents of Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, or Jo Daviess County. Must maintain a 2.5/4.0 GPA or higher and plan to continue education after high school. Applicant should display leadership characteristics and the potential to affect change, courage and tenacity to overcome obstacles, creative thinking and problem solving. Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship / End of January 2017 / Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship: Four year scholarship covering full tuition, books, fees, and uniforms plus a monthly stipend. Students can apply for 1 of 3 scholarship options: Navy, Marines or Nurse which will prepare student to be an officer in the Navy. After graduation, student will be a commissioned officer serving in the Navy. Students must have an ACT of 22 in English and

Community Foundation Scholarships / 2/1/17 / Community Foundation Scholarships: Awards more than $200,000 in scholarships to students in the local area. One application can be submitted for multiple scholarship opportunities. Supplemental items to include will be specified for each scholarship. See handout with the list of community foundation scholarships.

Daughters of the American Revolution State Scholarships / 2/1/17 / Daughters of the American Revolution State Scholarships: All applications must be submitted to the DAR chapter by 2/1/17 (Audrey Johnson, 2321 Halsted Rd., Rockford, IL 61103). One will be chosen to be sponsored by the Illinois DAR Chapter and sent to the state level by 2/15/17. Each chapter will sponsor one new applicant for the “general” scholarship (applicant must attend an Illinois college or university) and one new applicant for the General Henry Dearborn American History Scholarship (student plans to major in American History but is not limited to an Illinois college or university). Applicants will then be judged at the state level for academic excellence, financial need (not necessary for Henry Dearborn scholarship), extracurricular activities, essay, and 2 letters of rec. Daughters of the American Revolution National Scholarships / 2/10/17 / DAR National Scholarships: Applications may be found at www.dar.org, click on National Society, then click on Scholarships. Must submit a separate application for each scholarship (except nursing scholarship), along with essay, transcript with test scores, at least 2 letters of recommendation, list of extra-curricular activities/honors, photocopy of US citizenship (e.g., birth certificate), and financial need form. 10 scholarships for HS seniors including music majors, history majors, nursing majors, OT/PT majors, students with high GPA, and descendants of DAR members.
