BLEWETT ELEMENTARY HOT LUNCH PROGRAM 2017-2018
Welcome back to school. Hope you all had a fantastic summer! We are getting ready for another year of our Hot Lunch program so here is some information on how the program works.
The Blewett Hot Lunch program runs on Fridays from September to June. Four types of pizza are offered, and Thor’s Pizza have accommodated our requests that the pizzas meet the Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools by incorporating whole wheat crusts, homemade sauces etc.In addition the children are served fresh fruits and vegetables with their pizza.Please send a drink with your child if you wish them to have one. The cost for Hot Lunch is $3.50 for one slice, and $1.75 for each additional slice. Gluten free is $4.00 for one slice, and $2.25 for each additional slice. Sushi will also be served on select days each month, with a choice of Cali, Veggie or Cucumber rolls at $3.00/4pcs, $5.50/8pcs.and $8.00/12pcs.
Order forms for the Lunch Program will go out approximately every month and must be returned by the due date with the money attached. Cheques or cash are accepted, but please provide EXACT CHANGE if you are paying by cash. Please return forms on time. Ideally, the total orders for the lunch period are sent to our suppliers at the beginning of each session. It creates extra work and confusion to have to continually modify the order as late forms trickle in. Although there is often extra, it is difficult for your child if they are expecting hot lunch and are turned away. If your child is filling in their own form, please double check their addition. Send a snack with your child for morning recess. The children are not sitting down and eating their lunch until about 12:30 on Hot Lunch days. Please be sure your child knows if and what you have ordered to avoid disappointments. Many children will insist they have ordered something other than what the form reads.
Exact change is very much appreciated. Jane often does not have the ability (or time) to make change. Hot Lunch is a BPAC fundraiser and completely separate from any school fees for trips, activities, etc. Please do not combine Hot Lunch payments with other school related costs to avoid confusion. If your child is absent on a Hot Lunch Day, REFUNDS WILL NOT BE GIVEN.**Please advise Jane on the day of your child’s absence and a credit will be issued. Credits will be reflected on your child’s Hot Lunch form the following month.
If you wish your child/children to have Hot Lunch, please fill in the attached form and return it to the school by the due date. Your child will be given a colored copy to be kept in their classroom, with the original copy kept on file in the office in case of lost forms. If you would like your child to be included in the program but are unable due to financial difficulties, please contact the office for subsidy. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser. Calling All Volunteers!!!
The Blewett School Hot Lunch Program needs your help! Did you know that the Hot Lunch Program raises more money annually than any other school fundraising event? With all of the government cutbacks to public education, the proceeds from the Hot Lunch Program help fund many of your child’s school activities. Fine arts programs, spring activities,bussing, school sports uniforms, visiting performers and workshops, library books, subsidizing winter activities,i-Pads, ukuleles and even the purchasing of a new fridge for the school kitchen, just to name a few! The Hot Lunch Program relies entirely on a small handful of parent volunteers who week after week offer up their time to help the students of Blewett School. As a volunteer you would help set up the serving stations, prep the fruit and vegetables, serve, and help with the clean-up, about a two hour commitment. We also need volunteers to pick up the pizza from Thors and deliver it to the school. Volunteering will allow you to spend time in your child’s school environment, get to know their friends, teachers, and other Blewett parents, whether it is once a week, once a month, or once a year.A sign up form will go home with each hot lunch order form or please contact: Petra Kromer
