R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The golden anniversary of a devoted husband and wife is truly a reason for celebration, and on August 4, 2006, Vester and Wynona "Tootsie" Turner of Terrell are observing this special milestone in their long and happy marriage; and

WHEREAS, The pair experienced love at first sight, knowing in their hearts they were destined to be life partners, and they exchanged vows on August 4, 1956, in a ceremony at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Terrell; and

WHEREAS, The parents of two daughters, Catherine "Cathy" Elaine Boyd and Donna Kay McHone, the Turners have welcomed sons-in-law Scott Boyd and Mark McHone and grandchildren Courtney, Zachary, Zane, Jordan, Evan, Ainslee, and Hayden into their close-knit family; they have also provided a loving home for several other children whom they consider part of the Turner clan; and

WHEREAS, While raising her family, Mrs. Turner earned a nursing degree and managed a busy schedule of family responsibilities as well as a 34-year career with Dr. Royce A. Mull; Mr. Turner held a variety of jobs and served in the Army National Guard before spending 23-1/2 years with the Air National Guard; he served on active duty in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield; and

WHEREAS, Retired since 1992, the delightful couple volunteer as home group leaders and participate in the praise and worship ministry at Cornerstone Baptist Church; Mr. Turner further contributes to the congregation through his service as a deacon and Mrs. Turner, a former children's Sunday school teacher, today works with the Hearts and Hands sign language ministry; and

WHEREAS, Longtime musicians, the Turners also minister through music at local churches and at nursing and retirement homes; deeply committed to the political process, they have long supported the Kaufman County Republican Party; and

WHEREAS, For half a century, this devoted couple have shared life's trials and triumphs hand in hand, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor them for nurturing such a joyful and inspiring union; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby warmly congratulate Vester and Wynona "Tootsie" Turner on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Turner as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
