Welcome to Honors 10
Mrs. Carter
Mrs. Guzman
This is a block class, which combines AP Euro and Honors English. This section of the course meets the Common Core English Standards and the Sophomore English requirement; in addition the content of this course will support AP Euro with instruction and practice of writing FRQs and DQBs.
There will be an abundance of writing, reading and speaking opportunities to prepare students for the AP Euro exam, as well as to build the foundational skills needed for AP Lang and Lit. This course will be rigorous and challenging. You will not pass if you do not do the work.
This starts now.
Over the summer, Honors 10 students are expected to read and annotate Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradubury. The rubric for annotations is on the back of this page. Students can purchase a copy of the novel online or at any bookstore for approximately $5-$7. Buying a personal copy allows students the freedom to annotate directly on the text. If a student choses to check out a copy of the book from the library instead, they will need to see Mrs. Carter to obtain a copy of the book, then go to the library to check it out. In this case, annotations will need to be on post-it notes in the book or in Cornell notes, as writing on school property is not permissible.
Additional texts that are currently slated to be covered in this course include: Animal Farm, Night, Taming of the Shrew, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Lord of the Flies. (Note this list is subject to minor changes depending on class size and need).
We look forward to spending the year with some of Antelope’s greatest scholars.
