Career Skills Counseling Support, Fort Stewart Soldier For Life Transition Program

Offers employment skills training opportunities to Soldiers or occasionally other service members preparing to transition from military to civilian employment through providing program planning, administrative/logistical support, and reporting within their area of responsibility in direct support of the Army’s Career Skills Program (CSP). Coordinates with garrison-approved CSP employers, professional associations, unions, industry leaders, education and training providers to promote opportunities for transitioning Soldiers to yield high-value jobs or careers; from initial concept to establishment of a partnership and execution, with minimal or no cost to the government.

The minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform these services/tasks include:

Customer service skills; knowledge of U.S. postsecondary education; Soldier development programs; career guidance and planning techniques; and national labor market.

The position requires strong communication, briefing and technical writing skill with knowledge in a wide variety of military personnel areas such as: Transition processing, military benefits, VA benefits to include educational benefits for Soldiers and Family Members; retirement or separation issues, Department of Labor familiarity and knowledge of workforce development funding.

Must be knowledgeable about Military Occupational Specialties (MOS), curriculum and instruction for education and training programs, and utilization of various types of occupational information and resources to include the Department of Labor Occupational Outlook forecasts for employment industries, interest inventories, career planning and development to include approaches, program coordination, and use of educational and community resources and vocational systems.

A bachelor’s degree in any area of study from a college or university that is accredited by a national or regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.

Duties:

  • Serve as the Garrison point of contact for Army Career Skills Programs, performing a variety of administrative, logistical, and program planning duties in direct support of the program in coordination with the Region CSP Coordinator.
  • Schedule Career Skills Program and related classes.
  • Maintain liaisons in coordination with the installation POCs and Region CSP Coordinator.
  • Identify opportunities for transitioning Soldiers leading to a highly-skilled, high-demand job or career in the civilian sector and present options to the government for connection with industry.
  • Coordinate with employers, professional associations, unions, industry leaders, and education providers as directed by the Region CSP Coordinator and/or government representatives to encourage training that will produce high-value jobs or careers for transitioning military; from initial concept of establishment to government partnership.
  • Execute the garrison day-to-day operations of the CSP classes/cohorts ensuring tracking of applicants, setting up interviews for industry partners, scheduling information/marketing sessions in coordination with government personnel, tracking participants, communicating completion, entering data and counseling notes in the GoArmyEd.com system as well entering program information on the Army’s Common Operating Picture and other career skills databases.
  • Brief, educate and communicate the mission of the CSP to garrison stakeholders and to industry partners.
  • Provide summaries, executive reports and data analysis and tracking as required. Formalize relationships and establish roles and responsibilities. Draft Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) subject to legal approval in coordination with key government personnel to include coordinating activities and compliance.
  • Research and monitor CSP training opportunities in the community in coordination with key government personnel.
  • Participate in the applicant screening process (as a silent observer); monitor execution, and follow-up on job placement data; make telephone calls, send email and track correspondence.
  • Keep installation key government personnel, public officials, employers and stakeholders abreast of policies, procedures, trends, and problems.
  • Collect, consolidate, and analyze data; provide reports to the CSP Region Coordinator and key government personnel.
  • Prepare and/or conduct briefings, orientations, and special presentations to include flyers, marketing materials, news articles, and social media.
  • Prepare reports, maintain historical records and statistical materials to include writing CSP vetting packets and documentation, information papers, executive summaries.
  • Recommend solutions to concerns and or problems such as Soldier attendance at program activities (e.g., classes and counseling sessions) to the garrison POC.
  • Receive administrative and technical guidance key governmental personnel through general oral and written instruction.
  • Plan and execute daily operations to meet overall objectives and requirements.
  • Support special events as directed (i.e. college fairs, graduation, etc.) and service other garrison CSPs in surrounding area/proximity in a temporary duty status. Deliver virtual support as needed utilizing technology when required by the government.
  • Maintain work area/office in a clean, neat, professional, and orderly manner.
  • Assist garrison as needed in conducting Career Skills Program operations, conducting interest inventories and identifying subsequent opportunities to provide skills training and employment to transitioning military in coordination with the Regional Career Skills Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure computer and peripheral equipment is clean and operational.
  • Weekly Updates to the CSP Authoritative Database that populates the IMCOM CSP Common Operating Picture (COP) in coordination with the Career Skills Program Region Coordinators by the last working day of each week.
