Rock Cycle Comic

To wrap up our discussion on the three types of rocks, you will be writing and illustrating a story. In your story, your main character is a rock that is traveling through the rock cycle. On this journey, your rock will undergo many changes. How did these changes happen? Use a blend of scientific fact and creativity to describe your rock’s journey through the different stages of the rock cycle. Your finished project will be an illustrated comic.

Procedure:

1.  Find a rock about the size of your fist

2.  Give your rock some personality – decorate your “pet rock” – your pet rock will be the main character in your story

3.  Write the rough draft of your story

4.  Edit your rough draft – check the following items:

a.  Does my story make sense? Would an elementary school student understand my story?

b.  Does my story have a clear beginning, middle, and end?

c.  Have I checked my story with the rubric to be certain that I have included all of the scientific facts?

d.  Did I check my story for grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes?

5.  Divide your rough draft into logical blocks that are numbered. Decide how to illustrate each block. Remember a comic does not have too much information in one block.

6.  Create your final product – a rock comic. The comic may be typed or handwritten. Illustrations must be created by you – no clip art.

7.  Remember to be creative and neat.

8.  The comic should be between 6 to 8 blocks.

9.  DUE DATE: 2/5/13

The Rock Cycle Comic will count as a test grade.
