Subject: Appointment of Director of the Student Support Services TRIO Program
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Huong Nguyen as director of the Student Support Services TRIO program.
Ms. Nguyen began her career at Montgomery College in 2004 in the Gateway to College Program. She served as the primary liaison for Montgomery College, Montgomery County Public Schools and the Gateway National Network. While in the Gateway Program, Ms. Nguyen was especially proud of her work with the National Network to create the Student Information System (SIS), a national database that is currently being used by forty-one community colleges throughout the country.
Most recently, Ms. Nguyen served as the academic advisor in the Student Support Services TRIO program for the past five years. In that role, she was responsible for enrollment activities and integrating college policies and program procedures. She worked closely with students to support their academic success as well as transfer and career preparation. She devised individual academic plans, connected students to tutors and mentors, and responded to questions pertaining to academic and career goals. Ms. Nguyen has extensive experience with the administrative aspects of managing the TRIO program including preparation of annual reports for the U.S. Department of Education, student recruitment, and assisting in the training and supervision of staff.
Ms. Nguyen holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. She is currently enrolled in the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program at Morgan State University. Her research interests include the examination of students with disabilities in the community college and the impact of support systems.
Ms. Nguyen’s office is located in the South Campus Instructional Building, Room 006. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Nguyen to her role as director of the Student Support Services TRIO Program.
