Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

“A Message From Our Pastor”

Dear Friends—

Please note that on Sunday, Feb. 8th from 8:30am to 1:30pm we will be conducting a blood drive to aid Children’s Hospital in Boston. I’m sure that just about every one of us has needed or has had a family member or friend who has needed blood at one time or another. The winter months tend to be a time when the need for blood is high but the number of donors is low.

The blood mobile will be right here in our parking lot, so that the donation of the “gift of life” should be easy and convenient. If you can help, you are invited to sign up as you leave church this weekend or next, and there will also be the opportunity to sign up in the hall after some of the Masses on the next two weekends.

As we begin to think ahead, we would ask you to note the dates for some of our upcoming events in the parish. This year Lent begins on February 25th. Each year during Lent we try to have some special events. Last year we had a parish Mission that was very well received. We plan to have another Mission this year with a slight twist.

The twist is the fact that instead of meeting each night at St. Timothy’s—the Mission will travel between the four Catholic parishes in Norwood and Westwood. Each parish will host one night of the Mission.

As you know, we are trying to work more closely with our neighboring parishes. In the past we have done Advent and Lenten Penance services in the different parishes in our area. We hope that this endeavor will be a good experience for us as well. The dates for the Mission are Sunday, March 22 to Wednesday, March 25th.

In addition, on Saturday, March 28th we are planning a Youth Rally again for the youth of the four parishes, as well as students from Xaverian and Ursuline high schools. We hope that this will be an instructive and fun day for our youth.

Some of you may have participated in our “Parish Pulse” project that was held just about one year ago. At that time almost 300 people gathered in neighborhood meetings to talk about our parish. We did publish a summary of those meetings, but we also said that we would try to have a parish meeting where we could report to the parish how we have addressed some of your issues, and to present a “vision” of where we hope the parish is headed in the near future. The date of that meeting is March 11.

We will be providing much more material about these meetings in the weeks ahead, but since time does fly and life does get busy, we hope that you will mark off those dates so that you can join with us at these different events.
