Prepare the child for the path,
Not the path for the child.

Here is the news from Room 30:
5th Grade
Midterms come home Monday. If you have not done so, please sign the report and return it to school.
This week we began Unit 2 which focuses on developing their number sense and operation strategies for numbers. The Studylink was put in student mailboxes last week.
Next week we will continue multiplication/division of decimals and scientific notation, finishing the unit with the post-test on Thursday, Oct 13th.
Math Magazine is due October 28th. Your student may turn it in earlier if complete.
As a reminder your student should keep the magazine in a folder that goes between home and school. Time is given in class for students to work on it and I am available for questions when the need arises.
4th Grade
Midterm reports came home Monday. If you have not returned it, please sign the report and send it with your student. If it was misplaced send a note and I will make a copy.
Unit 2 is finishing up with estimation and multiplication algorithms. Students are going to correct their Unit 2 pre-test on Wednesday, with the unit test on thursday.
Students have received their October dynamath, due the 28th, however, your student is welcome to turn it in earlier. The expectations for students are:
1. labels on their solutions
2. review their work for logical answers and full completion
3. ask me if they don’t understand the math problems
This magazine takes time to complete, so, students should not wait until close to the due date to begin working on it.
If the magazine is turned in one day late they receive 80% of the grade and 2 days late, zero points.
Your student should keep the magazine in a folder that is carried between school and home. There will be some time in class for them to work on this assignment. Also, if there are any questions I am available to help.
3rd Grade
Midterm reports came home Monday. If you have not done so, please sign and return the report.
Next week Unit 2 will finish up with subtraction of multi-digit numbers. It is important that your student practice the algorithms taught in class as they are expected to show mastery of partial sums, column addition, trade first and partial difference on the post-test. The studylink was put in the student mailboxes last week. If you need an extra copy please remember all those materials are accessible through the everydayonline website.
Our Unit 2 test is scheduled for October 12th.
Continue to practice the multiplication facts. There are many free online games or the Everydaymathonline website has some as well. The multistep problems are less frustrating if they don’t have to stop and figure out the facts.
Have a great weekend!
