- Guest Speakers
- Lois from Uniting Church spoke about building a community garden- using work for the dole participants, handing out broachers at outreach. Will be located next to the Uniting Church. Hoping people from Gagebrook will get involved, opportunity for involvement with other services.
- Lee Prouse – Red Cross – Before the Harm – is a shared learning process to reduce harm in the community. Partnership approach working in the Bridgewater, Gagebrook and Herdsmans Cove areas. A DVD will to developed as part of the process, hoping for two community champions to work on the project.
- Youth Community Network Report
Maree Fudge spoke about the need for the Collective Impact group to meet more regularly, we need to define what we are talking about, what do we want to work on, drugs, mental health and trauma. Early Years meet on the same day as Brighton Alive- 1.30-3. It was agreed that the Collective Impact Group will meet after Brighton Alive meeting 11.30 to 12.30 (Cathy to check meeting place and advise).
- Early Years Report
HIPPY update- Emma reported- currently taking enrolments for children aged 4 years, parent/ carer first teacher, only 25 places. 2 year program, home interaction program. Work alongside current programs. Can be anywhere, parks, community centres, LINC, café. Is very flexible – 30 weeks per year. Individual based.
- Project Spot- Community Blitz
Clean Up Australia – about 8 people helped collect around 30 bags of rubbish. Last year’s site seems to have remained clean.
Blitz going very well, funding from Primary Health runs out in June.
- Events and Promotion
- Events Funding – Sheryl reported that the Events Working Group had meet last week to plan submission to Brighton Community Grants for funding for the four events as adopted at the last Brighton Alive meeting.
- Christmas Parade Planning Group – it was suggested that a planning group be formed to start planning for a Christmas Parade – the following participants self-nominated/ or were suggested: Cathy Harper, Emma, Red Cross group, JRS, tagari lia, Peter Geard (SES), Phil Owen (Fire), Sheryl, Vets, Helen, Teresa.
- Brighton Alive Web Page-as mentioned the Events Calendar is now on the Brighton Alive page with a new tab- Events, this also has the Events Management Kit. A flier is also being produced to enable us all to promote the site. Everyone was encouraged to add their activities under the Activities tab and events under the new Events tab. – it was suggested that a phone app would also be good. – maybe in partnership with UTAS.
- Information sharing
*Sharing from Middle School – Helen has students on training cert – 1 and 2, need workplacements for children’s services, community services.
*Margie asked for clarification on the planning for work in the area in front of the Centre from Council- it has to go before Council before further consultation.
*Red Cross evaluation – paper version available from Red Cross
*Hope for Life Training, this is aTrain the Trainer course being offered Free 28 &29 April – contact Red Cross
*Cecilia from StandBy Response Service – There is ahigher rate of suicide in this area than in the south of the state. Stand By is not always notified of a suicide. Cecilia will present at the next meeting.
