VSA Texas, the state organization on arts and disability, is looking for young adults with disabilities interested in participating in an internship in filmmaking.Participants who successfully complete the 40 hour internship will receive a $75 stipend. Limited space is available!

Participant Requirements

·Have a developmental disability*(see below for definition)

·Must be between the ages of 16 and 23

·Demonstrate an interest in filmmaking

·Turn in completed application form

·Turn in a resume of work and volunteer experience

·Turn in two letters of recommendation (can be from teachers, employers, friends, or family)

·Turn in a short sample of a film that you were involved in creating (Optional)

*Definition from the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities website - “A Developmental Disability is a severe, chronic disability that begins before the person reaches age 22 and is likely to continue throughout one’s life.”

VSA Texas Filmmaking Internship participants will work with professional artists in the film industry through classroom settings and hands-on experience. Interns will be immersed in every aspect offilmmaking. From concept development to screenwriting to filming and editing, you get personal instruction on how to bring your vision to life. Week one is the film school experience. We think, we write, we storyboard. Pre-production is key to realizing your film once we begin shooting.In weeks two and threeinterns are paired with professionals and volunteers to produce, shoot, score and edit the film. Together, in teams of three, your short films are born!

The internship leaders will be local filmmakers including Johnny Villarreal from The Edge of Imagination Station, Aaron Weiss from One Story Productions, and Cheryl Green from StoryMinders. Through building a community of knowledgeable film people around the student weprovide accessforindividuals with diverse abilities to have voice through filmmaking.

Schedule: The internship will be held for three weeks, June15- July 3, 2015, Monday-Friday, from 10:00 am-2:00 pmeach day. Our filmmaking base will bein Room 101 of the AGE Building at 3710 Cedar St. in Austin. There will be studio work and onsite location filming at other central Austin locations throughout week two and three.Participants must be able to attend the full three weeks. Reasonable absences due to illnesses, family emergency, etc. will be excused.
