A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE FLAME VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR COACH PEGGY ANTHONY FOR HER EXCELLENT COACHING.

Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina honor the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team for their impressive winning season, which culminated in their AAA State Championship victory over Camden High School on November 3, 2001; and

Whereas, the team finished the season with records of 140 in the region, 200 in the regular season, and 50 in the playoffs. The Lady Flame’s overall record was 333 with losses only during outofstate tournaments; and

Whereas, at White Knoll High School in Irmo, Pickens dominated the state championship match against Camden, winning in the first three games 152, 153, and 1614; and

Whereas, the Pickens High School Volleyball Coach, Peggy Anthony, received high honors this season when she recorded her 700th victory on Wednesday, October 10, 2001, in a match against Wren High School. Coach Anthony set the standard in South Carolina as the most victorious volleyball coach; and

Whereas, Coach Anthony has won eight state championships, has been named South Carolina Coach of the Year twice and Region Coach of the Year fifteen times, has had fourteen teams with an undefeated conference record, has never had a losing season in her twentyfive years of coaching, and has had fortyeight of her players receive athletic scholarships; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might recognize and honor the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team and Coach Peggy Anthony on their record season and championship win. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team for an outstanding season and for winning the State AAA Championship, and to honor Coach Peggy Anthony for her excellent coaching.
