It’s almost Derby time and Troop 399 is ready! Event logistics are below.

Be Prepared; Know What to Bring

o  Winter wear and boots (extra pair of socks)

o  GPS & First Aid Kit

o  Egg for event (must arrive at city unbroken)

o  Lunch (foil dinner is recommended)

o  Fire wood for event & Donation to some cities

o  Items to start fire and cut egg

o  Containers to carry out ashes and trash

o  Scout approved knife (must have Totin’ Chip)

o  Rope, twine, patrol flag on a pole

o  Token to leave in the Geocache Box

Check List

o  Scout Medical Forms A&B

o  Register for Friday night camping; campsites will be assigned

o  Registration forms and payment for all attending scouts/adults in your unit

o  Token to leave in the Geocache Box

Arrival Instructions for Friday, February 3, 2017

o  Check in at Registration (the warming hut) upon arrival to receive camp site assignment

o  Turn in Medical Forms A&B for each scout camping out

o  Register your Unit and provide payment; One representative from each participating Patrol, MUST check in at registration

Arrival Instructions for Saturday, February 4, 2017

o  Upon arriving at the event location, parking will be at the Soccer Field

o  Sleds, supplies and equipment must be unloaded in the parking lot and walked into the event

o  For safety of all attending, only pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the event road after 730am

o  Please respect the Crossing Marshall at the event; the road to the event is on a curve and traffic tends to be fast. Pedestrian safety is important, therefore, we will have an assigned marshal to assist pedestrians crossing the street. Signs will also be posted warning traffic that an event is ahead

o  One representative from your Patrol must register at the hut; payment is due at this time

o  Patrols will receive sled tag, event map, city packet and heat assignment; One representative from each participating Patrol, MUST check in at registration

Sled Judging Requirements

Submit or bring two photos of your troop working on your sled prior to Klondike (new this year)

o  These photos can be emailed to or brought to the event

o  All patrol members must be present at the time of judging

o  Patrol name must be visible on sled (on flag does not count)

o  Patrol symbol must be visible on sled (on flag does not count)

o  Patrol Flag, not part of sled

o  Troop number visible on sled

o  Troop town visible on sled

o  Troop sponsor visible on sled

o  Nugget pouch presented on request

o  Geocaching treasure presented on request

o  Ash from fires made during the Klondike presented on request

o  Patrol Pride: clean, new paint, unique, patrol spirit

Patrols can earn a maximum of 100 points; each criteria earns individual points.

Miscellaneous

o  The warming hut will be the center of all activities for the Klondike to include

o  First Aid

o  Emergency refuge for overnight campers

o  Registration for patrols and staff/mayors

o  Snack shack (Troop 399 fundraiser)

o  Food will be sold to visitors and staff (not scouts/patrols or leaders participating in the Klondike)

o  Hot dogs, Chicken Soup & Chili

o  Coffee & Hot Chocolate

o  Muffins & Donuts

o  Cookies & Whole Fruit

Every effort will be made to offer nut free items

Scout Expectations

This will be a fun and challenging event for scouts. With that said, there are some expectations the Klondike Planning Committee has identified below that all scouts will be required to abide by.

o  Follow all scout safety procedures

o  Stay on marked trails

o  Report injuries, safety hazards or any problems to a leader or volunteer immediately

o  No foul language, arguing among patrol or with other patrols

o  Disrespect of leaders and volunteers will not be tolerated

o  This is a scout only event; parents and leaders are not permitted to assist in challenges

o  Leave no trace; includes ash from fire, trash, equipment, etc.

Anyone found not to be following the rules above will lose nuggets or even worse, be eliminated from the event.

Upon individual unit completion Sled Judging

Upon individual unit completion Scouts pack up and check out (leave no trace)

A representative from each Troop must check-out at Registration when the team leaves the event. For scout safety reasons, we want to make sure there is no one left on the trail/in the woods.

From Alfred Center

*Travel North on Route 202 about 2.5 miles

*At the State Police Barracks, turn RIGHT onto Brock Road

*Parking lots and Klondike site are approximately 1 mile

From Waterboro Center

*Travel South on Route 202 about 2 miles

*At the State Police Barracks, turn LEFT onto Brock Road

*Parking lots and Klondike site are approximately 1 mile

Parking

*Parking for this event will be marked. There will be a primary (lot #1) and 2 overflow lots

*The road to the “hut” will be pedestrian only; no vehicles/trailers

*Primary parking area will be at the Bunganut Soccer Field (across from the hut road)

*Overflow parking will be at the Bunganut Lake Town lot

*Drop off of equipment is allowed; on road parking is not permitted
