C.  Description of the change request:

ABSB / BSBIdentifier / (Australia) Bank-State-Branch number – identifies both the Financial Institution and the branch (point of representation) of a particular account in Australia. Issued by APCA (Australian Payments and Clearing Association).
AIIN / IssuerIdentificationNumber / Issuer Identification Number (IIN) - identifies a card issuing institution in an international interchange environment. Issued by ABA (American Bankers Association).

D.  Purpose of the change:

Additional codes are required to support customer-to-bank credit transfers to indicate the account identification scheme under which the individual account number was assigned. This new requirement relates to the implementation of the New Payments Platform in Australia.

Regarding ABSB, it the following local AU definition provides additional clarification for the term “point of representation”. BSB Numbers are, in effect, digital addresses that could be used to identify "representation points" within a financial institution. A representation point may be an administration centre, a branch or office upon which payment instruments (for example, cheques) can be drawn, or a processing centre where "value entries" may be sent by other participants in a clearing system.
