POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: School Nutrition Accountant

Department: Central Office

Reports To: School Nutrition Supervisor

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

SUMMARY

Assists the school nutrition supervisor by performing responsible clerical and technical work involving the school nutrition program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Processes food/equipment orders, delivery schedules and follow-up.

·  Reviews all invoices and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them to the Accounts Payable Accountant for payment.

·  Maintains inventories of all foods, supplies and equipment.

·  Audits, compiles, and submits monthly e-claims, weekly deposit transactions, daily café prepayments, and semi-annual/annual financial reports.

·  Reviews and processes direct certification and free/reduced meal applications; assists with verification of income.

·  Analyzes weekly produce prices, compiles and submits orders.

·  Keeps records such as amount and cost of meals served and hours worked by employees.

·  Implements program utilization of USDA commodities, and preparation and filing of required reports.

·  Assists the School Nutrition Supervisor with menu preparation, general office management and reports involving the school nutrition program.

·  Generates monthly reports as meal participation and profit/loss statements per school and assists in analysis of reports.

·  Perform other duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Supervisor and Finance Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·  Knowledge of clerical and bookkeeping terminology, methods, and procedures.

·  Proficiency in using computers, including spreadsheet, data base, and word processing programs.

·  Strong organizational skills to work in a multi-task environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and competing demands.

·  Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential.

·  Strong analytical skills.

·  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

·  Ability to process large volumes of documentation in an efficient and timely manner with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details.

·  Ability to perform duties and tasks in a confidential manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with courses of study in Business Administration, Accounting, Management, Finance, or related field with related work experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
