CLYST ST MARY
Church Services
There will be a special Mothering Sunday Service on 26th March. This will be an informal Family Service and posies will be provided. The Family Service will be held on 12th March at 11 am as normal. We welcome families and children to these services.
Church Coffee Mornings
The February coffee morning raised £111.50. Thank you to those who supported the event by coming along to relax and chat as well as to those who ran and contributed to the stalls and provided the coffee and biscuits. The March coffee morning will be on Saturday 11th from 10 to 11.30 am in church. We look forward to welcoming you there. Contributions for the cake and produce stall will be much appreciated.
Coppers!
During December and halfway through January Don Axfordwas handed several more bags of coppers, etc. Thank you very much indeed to the donors –you know who you are (one who now lives in Mid Devon); it is very much appreciated. So, a reminder to those people who are not sure what to do with those ‘unwanted’ 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p or even higher denomination coins which you have weighing down your pockets or purses: save them for the church and when you want to get rid of them let Don Axford (01392 873615) have them or he’ll come and collect them from you. Please keep saving, it really does help precarious church funds! It’s definitely well worthwhile to the church so please keep it up.
Annual Vestry Meeting and Parochial Church Meeting
The Annual Vestry Meeting and Parochial Church Meeting will be held in church on Wednesday 29th March at 7.30 pm. All parishioners are invited to attend.
Free Money for Church Funds!!
There is a website called The Giving Machine which, if you shop online by going through it first, means that retailers will donate a small percentage of the purchase price to our church funds. For example Amazon currently donates 2.25%, John Lewis and M&S 1.5% and Argos 1.13%. No extra effort or expense is required, except to remember to go through The Giving Machine before you purchase online. All you need to do is type ‘The Giving Machine’ into your search engine and then click the link to get on to their website; join (purple button at top) The Giving Machine as a Giver; put in your details and then search for ‘Clyst St Mary PCC’ from the list to make us the beneficiary you wish to support; login and shop by finding, from their list, the online retailer you want to use to make a purchase, then continue as normal. Everything else is automatic.
To make it easier you can add a shortcut to The Giving Machine to your desktop. Thank you in advance for helping to keep us solvent!
Church Fundraising Meeting
The next church fundraising meeting will be held on Thursday 23rd March at 2.30 pm in church. Please come along if you would like to help us with this task. It can be fun!
Village Hall Committee AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Village Hall Committee will be held in the committee room at the Hall on Monday 27th March at 7.30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. All organisations using the Hall are asked to send a representative. If you don’t know what goes on in the Hall and plans for the future, now is your chance to find out. We are in urgent need of new members to help in the management of the Hall if we are not to lose this important village asset. Please come along and volunteer. If committee work is not for you, we also need helpers for maintenance and repairs. If you think that you would like to get involved, please come along. At our website you can view a calendar of current Hall bookings and hire charges as well as downloading hire forms and conditions of hire.

CLYST ST MARY PLAYERS
Clyst St Mary Players are rehearsing their next production of ‘Under The Greenwood Tree’ by Thomas Hardy, adapted for the stage by Jack Shepherd and directed by Jenny Goode.
The story is oftheMellstockQuireanditsoldestablishedmembers who have played and sung in the church for many a year even generation to generation and the sudden addition to the village of a new schoolmistress. The vicar himself, new to the village, suggests that the Quire be replacedandaharmoniuminstalledinthechurchtobeplayedof course by Miss Fancy Day, the new schoolmistress. This however does not go down well with the Quire and the community.
The writer gives us a view of a closed rural society; it invites us to celebrate a less commercial Christmas and allows us to share their customs, hospitality, friends and relations. We meet the inhabitants of Mellstock and get to know something of their lives and loves. This is a well loved book by Hardy and has given us the opportunity to join forces with a local folk band who play for carolling, dancing and songs of the era and along with dramatic staging and lighting will we hope give you a picture of Hardy’s memories of his life in his beloved Dorset.
We cordially invite you to join us on this journey and enjoy an evening of sheer entertainment. Performances at Clyst St Mary Village Hall on 23rd – 25th March at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from Claire Ward on 01392 879835 (ansaphone available) or Jenny Goode on01392 875714 or at .
Light refreshments will be available in theinterval Cider Bar byoursponsor, Green ValleyCyder.
Clyst St Mary Primary School
We have lots happening in March and we are especially looking forward to World Book Day. All the children dress up as their favourite book character and we have a storyteller/author visiting the school. The children love this event and really get the reading bug!
Also in March we hold our annual Key Stage 2 Music and Dance Evening – this gives the children learning a musical instrument the chance to perform for the school as well each class performing a song/dance at the show. We hold this at the Village Hall and it’s a fantastic evening for our parents and children.
On Red Nose Day the children take part in fundraising by selling cakes and dressing up in their red nose gear!
We end the Spring Term with an Easter Sponsored Walk at the playing field which is a great way for the children to keep fit and help raise some extra money for additional library books.
The Easter holidays run from 3rd April to the 17th and the first day of the summer term is 18th April.

Clyst St Mary Football in the Village
As you will be aware, the Parish Council has recently had the field behind the Village Hall levelled to create a small 9 v 9 size football pitch. The grass is growing well and hopefully the pitch will be ready for use next September. Our school has already shown an interest in making use of it and this has given me the idea of getting our community together in forming a football club for primary school aged children. There is a resident in the village, an ex-professional footballer, who is interested in forming such a club and he would be grateful of your support in helping not only to set the club up but also to help run it. Clyst Valley Football Club has offered to help with the formation of this club and assist with its development.
If you are interested in getting involved with this venture, please let me have your details, how many children would like to play and how you would like to get involved. Most matches will be played over weekend periods against other clubs who play in a local league and who are affiliated to Devon FA. Mike Norman (01392 877012; )
