APPOINTMENT:Children’s Services Modern Award (2010)
HOURS OF DUTY:17 hours per week (Wednesday and Thursdays as core days)
POSITION DURATION:March 5th2013 – 30th April 2013 temporary part-time.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
OF THE POSITION:This position is responsible for the overall management of the BOOSH service including managing an Assistant Co-ordinator and other child care staff and volunteers. The Assistant Co-ordinator position has responsibility for a range of duties that would normally sit within an overall co-ordination position. This is a 12 month arrangement. There will be some duties that sit within both job descriptions and these will be negotiated regularly. Final responsibility rests with this position.
- To provide a before and after school and vacation care out-of-school hours service for primary aged childrenin the Upper Blue Mountains
- To be responsible for all planning, resources and staff rosters for the BOOSH childcare service and to provide the administrative support for the program.
- To lead and motivate staff in the provision of the program.
- To work with other staff members in providing an environment where new ideas are welcome and encouraged and there is a high degree of teamwork.
- To treat each child with respect and dignity taking into consideration any socio-cultural or other differences that may arise.
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Project delivery & service planning
1.1Establish and maintain centre policies and procedures (in accordance with National Childcare Accreditation Council Inc. guidelines, BANC/ BOOSH policies and National Standards) in consultation with the children in the program, their families and carers. Offer the children the opportunity to make choices and decisions of their own about rules and procedures.
1.2Provide a safe, creative, caring, happy and secure environment where children can develop positive self esteem, values and life-skills.
1.3Teach children through modelling and demonstration of appropriate behaviour.
1.4Maintain a behaviour management policy that promotes a safe environment.
1.5Maintain all records of service provided, including daily programs, incident reports, parent communications and time sheets. All reports to be submitted to the BANC Manager.
1.6Ensure that all mandatory notification procedures are adhered to at all times, as set out by NSW Government (
1.7Support the inclusion of children into the service with additional needs
1.8Set the menu plan for all programs
1.9Oversee programming, evaluation for Vacation Care and before and after school care.
2. Staff
2.1Supervise a team of casual child care workers.
2.2Ensure that staff members safeguard each child’s safety and welfare at all times.
2.3Ensure all staff in the BOOSH project hold a current and appropriate First Aid qualification and are aware of correct procedures in the case of accident or illness.
2.4Organise and attend staff meetings with BOOSH staff.
2.5Ensure compliance to Workers Health (OH&S) regulations and requirements.
3. Finance and administration
3.1Maintain accurate financial records for the BOOSH childcare service including daily attendance records, weekly averages, fee collection, issuance of BOOSH receipts and expense recording.
3.2Collect and receipt cash payments at BOOSH and take them to the Finance Manager on a weekly basis.
3.3Consult with the Finance Manager to ensure project operates within budget requirements.
3.4Provide input into the preparation of annual budgets in consultation with the Manager and Finance Manager.
3.5Ensure that the service complies with all relevant government guidelines and funding requirements including acquittals.
3.6Work with the Manager on any relevant funding applications.
3.7Respond to requests from the Family Law Court for information and statements.
3.8Prepare correspondence to families and the schools
3.9Prepare service support plans, applications and permissions for ISA
3.10Undertake AASS reporting.
4. Resources
4.1Allocate staffing and resources within the limits of the BOOSH budget in consultation with the Manager.
4.3Plan and organise the purchase of new equipment for BOOSH.
4.4Plan and organise publicity for BOOSH in consultation with the Manager.
5. Liaison and partnerships
5.1 Maintain close working relationships with the Blackheath Public School and other feeder schools in the district.
5.2 Attend and actively contribute to the Blue Mountains OOSH Forum.
5.3Maintain relationships with associated service providers (sporting, excursion-related providers).
6. General
6.1Monitor and guide the ongoing assessment process as required by the Quality Framework and develop a Quality Improvement Plan.
6.2Maintain all records and resources.
6.3Monitor and evaluate the quality of service delivery and its impact on children.
6.4Contribute to the overall team environment of BOOSH and BANC, and attend meetings of the BANC Management Committee as requested.
6.5Attend BANC staff team meetings, planning meetings and other team activities as requested by the Manager.
6.6Assist with tasks as directed by the Manager and/or Management Committee.
6.7Promote and participate in all projects and activities of BANC.
ORGANISATIONAL
RESPONSIBILITIES:Adhere to BANC’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy including assuming responsibility for the proper use of safeguards, safety devices, personal equipment and other equipment provided for safety purposes.
Ensure all Policies of BANC are complied with.
Promote a positive image of BANC to members of the public.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND
EXTENT OF
AUTHORITY:BANC operates on a governance model of management in which all operational decisions are made by the BANC Manager with assistance from the Community Access Services Co-ordinator, subject to the policies, principles, objectives and budget parameters of BANC which are established by the Management Committee.

SPECIALIST SKILLS

- Knowledge of child protection legislation and policies.
- Knowledge of the operating requirements of an OOSH service.
- Finance, administration and planning skills.

Ability to supervise staff, set rosters, and undertake administrative procedures to ensure efficient operation of the service.
INTERPERSONAL
SKILLS:
- Well developed oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to gain the co-operation of staff, centre users and community groups.
- Capacity to manage conflict to achieve productive resolutions.

QUALIFICATIONS
AND EXPERIENCE:
Relevantqualifications, for example Primary teaching / Diploma in Children’s Services (OOSH) or other relevant child care qualifications
KEY SELECTION
CRITERIA:
a. Diploma of Children’s Service or higher qualification
b. Experience in managing a child care service or equivalent
c. Experience and knowledge of age appropriate and educational learning activities for children in middle childhood
d. Proven ability to program appropriately for 5 to 12 year olds
e.Team leadership skills and ability to work as part of a team
f.Knowledge of current industry standards, accreditation requirements and best practice
g.High standard of written and oral communication
