Start with Parentheses (4 x 5) equals 20.

Then add 7, so 7 + 20, which equals 27.

Take a look that there aren’t any Parentheses, or exponents, and that in this equation there are only two steps, Multiplication and Subtraction.

So if you look at the order of operations, what comes after Parentheses and exponents?

Multiplication, so the first thing we need to do is 5 x 5, which equals 25.

Then all we need to do is 25 - 2, which equals 23.

The first thing that you need to solve is the Parentheses, so we need to do (5 x 2), which equals 10.

Now that we’re done with the PArentheses, we need to move onto multiplication, so 4 x 3, which equals 12.
