Instructions to Candidates for Position of Parish Rector

The candidate’s package contains a parish profile and a rector’s profile. We ask you to prayerfully consider whether the parish’s mission and vision align with what you sense God is calling you to do.

If the answer is yes, we welcome you to apply for the position of rector of Christ the King, Edmonton, a member of the Anglican Network in Canada and the North American Anglican Church.

Here is the process the search committee asks you to follow:

  1. Provide us with a resume outlining your background, experience and education. The resume should also include three(3) or more references: one from an academic whom you highly respect, one from a person who has known you well for a period of five(5) or more years, and one from a person you have influenced in his/her journey with Christ.
  1. Please prepare written answers of no more than 350 words to the following three questions.
  1. Tell us about your personal journey with Christ.
  2. How do your perspectives and gifts fit with the mission and vision of Christ the King, Edmonton?
  3. What are some specific ideas you can offer to Christ the King to make the mission and vision become a reality?
  1. As you have read in the rector’s profile, we are searching for “a preacher of God’s Word, one gifted by the Holy Spirit and passionate about the calling to express and expound the message of the Word to our time and place.”

We would like to hear or view two sermons from each candidate. If your sermons are not readily available on line, we prefer to view them via YouTube. If this does not work, viewing them via a DVD or hearing them via a CD is also acceptable.

The Selection Process

The selection process will involve three stages: 1.) a review of the applications, 2.) Internet or telephone interviews with selected applicants along with reference checks. 3.) Final candidates will be asked to complete a personality profile and will be interviewed by the parish council before its decision is sent to Bishop Trevor Walters for his approval
