Public Intake Coordinator
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for ensuring a constant supply/intake of adoptable pets through public intake including strays, owner surrenders, return adoptions and intake from local municipal shelters other than ACS. This position must work coordinate and work very closely with the ADL ACS Intake Coordinator, the Hospital Manager, Foster Coordinators, vet techs and hospital office staff. Must be comfortable turning away pets and customers due to space, variety and temperament. This is a public position and represents ADL at all times. This position will require the utmost in team work and customer service. This position reports to the Hospital Manager.
Specific Duties include but are not limited to:
· Determine daily intake numbers based on kennel census, animal variety and s/n surgery schedule, ACS intake and available hospital kennel space
· Walks the kennels daily with the Kennel Supervisor or the Shelter Services Director (if available) and the ADL ACS Intake Coordinator to determine weekly intake focus of breed, size, color variety
· Sets daily intake schedule from phone calls and emails, responding daily to all communications, while being open to some walk-in intakes, and intake from municipal shelters other than ACS
· Works with the veterinary and hospital staff on behavior assessments and medical assessments
· Assists staff with bathing, grooming, trimming nails, feeding, kenneling, etc. to expedite the intake process
· Must effectively with the public and respond promptly to all intake requests even when shelter is at capacity
· As necessary must provide viable alternatives other than ADL to customers
· Works with the Foster Coordinators to place pets not ready for adoption
· Responsible for all other duties as assigned/required
Knowledge/skills/requirements:
· Must have excellent customer service skills and documented experience working with the public
· Must have knowledge of animal behavior and illnesses and have prior experience handling dogs and cats; at least 1 year of documented experience
· Must be able to draw blood
· Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Must be organized and detail-oriented
· Must be able to work occasional Saturdays and Sundays and field phone calls after hours
· Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record
Physical demands and working conditions:
Physical requirements include frequent lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds and greater with assistance/ visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity. Subject to climbing, kneeling, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are inside and outside with frequent exposure to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, noise, dirty environment, confining work space and unfavorable odors.
