POST TITLE:Assistant Manager (Acton Day Service)

ACCOUNTABLE TO:Day Centre Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR:ActonDay Service

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Day Services Manager, the role is responsible for the operational management of Age Concern Ealing’s Acton Day Service and the development, implementation and promotionof appropriate organisational procedures that represent best practice. The Assistant Managerwill develop a person centred service with a rehabilitative focus that promotes active involvement in the centre and enables older people to regain confidence, relearn skills, enjoy social activities and which provides a focus for their day and access to a support network. The Acton Day Service is located within a community resource centre for older people at the Michael Flanders Centre and operates as part of a co-located service with Ealing Council. The Assistant Manager will take turns at preparing the activities rota and also managing all day care staff (both Ealing Council and Age Concern staff). The job will also require participation in day centre activities on a rotational basis

Service Development

Ensure that the Acton day service is planned and developed in line with local need, reviewed and monitored in accordance with ACE requirements.

Develop and maintain local knowledge and contacts in relation to needs and services, and keep up to date with developments locally and nationally.

Provide support, advice and guidance to the Day Centre Manager on day service related issues.

Develop new day service activities in consultation with service users

Support the development of social clubs.

Work with Clients and Users

Ensure assessment and review procedures are implemented across day services. Conduct case conferences and reviews.

Ensure that the needs of older people using the services are identified, that care plans are put together for each service user and that they are implemented and reviewed.

Develop a range of activities in the centre with a rehabilitative focus that increase confidence, independence and a sense of well being for service users promoting the active involvement and participation of users in setting up these activities.

Lead and participate in the daily activities of the centre

Ensure that personal care provided is safe and appropriate to the needs of individual users and that risk assessments are conducted where appropriate.

Follow up service users who have neither contacted nor attended the Centre on their allocated days and check their well being.

Ensure that users and their carers are treated with respect and that their individual needs including cultural needs are acknowledged at all times.

Facilitate contact with relatives and others who may be involved in providing care and support to users and be responsible for maintaining ongoing contact with key agencies involved in the care of older people.

Ensure that Age Concern Ealing’s Health and Safety and emergency procedures are followed, and that staff understand their responsibilities in relation to notifying emergency services, administering first aid and managing the evacuation of the building in case of fire or other danger.

Staff and Volunteers

Act as Duty Officer on a rota basis.

Ensure that there is a full complement of day care staff and volunteers including there is adequate cover for sickness and holidays where required.

 Manage, supervise, support and motivate volunteers and ensure their involvement is valued.

Finance and Administration

Ensure that the centres maintain accurate and timely records on daily attendance, individual files, income and expenditure and any other business required by ACE policy and procedures.

Be responsible for day centre financial procedures as set out by the Day Centre Manager. To ensure that financial records are kept in connection with any financial transaction including all cash handling.

Ensure that monitoring information relating to the day service is prepared in line with organisational procedures and funders’ requirements.

Prepare any reports/ information required for monitoring and information purposes.

Other

To work within Age Concern Ealing’s policies and procedures, and demonstrate a commitment to the values and ethos of the organisation.

An understanding of the issues affecting older people.

To maintain the confidentiality of older people using the service, and in all matters relating to the organisation.

Ability to communicate sensitively and tactfully with a range of people, including service users, partner organisations, staff, volunteers and Trustees.

To keep up to date with developments, undertake training, attend conferences and personal development seminars as appropriate to your role.

To ensure the efficient use of resources.

To organise and prioritise tasks, respond to short deadlines when required and work on own initiative.

To work as part of a team.
