SEEDING: Please see the attachment on the athlete entry process for this season. The high school league is being extremely strict on the process. You will now need to go to the high school league website to make all entries. The deadline is Monday, May 23rd at 9pm. After the deadline no changes will be allowed.

Relays may be changed from subsections to sections to state.

Once all entries are entered…a copy will be sent to the coaches to review and to make

spelling changes if necessary. All races will be seeded with no preliminary heats. There

will be finals in the throwing and horizontal jumping events with top nine efforts making

the finals. The participants will be seeded into flights with the best seeds going first in

the flights. The best performers in the prelims will throw/jump in reverse order in the

finals.

ENTRIES: Limit of three participants per individual event per school and one relay team per school in each event.

COACHES MEETING: Coaches will be given programs at the coaches meeting upon arrival on Tuesday, May 24th. Please have your teams here on time in order to take care of last minute changes and scratches. The coaches/scratch meeting is Tuesday at 3:45 in rm 826 through the east door of the school.

SCRATCH RULE: If a participant scratches from any open event and is participating in the meet, they will be scratched from all open events and those positions will not be filled. Any scratched position may not be replaced after the deadline of Monday, May 23rd at 9:00 pm. This includes field events. Relays are not considered an open event. This substitution policy follows that of the MSHSL.

PARTICIPATION: A contestant may participate in a total of four events but not in excess of three track or three field events in arriving at the combination of four. If a contestant participates in three track events, only two of those events may be 800 meters or longer. A contestant who fails to qualify in a preliminary of any event shall be considered to have participated in the event.

RULES: National Federation track and field rules govern the meet. MSHSL rules will also be in effect. Helmets are REQUIRED for the pole vault.

Preferred Lanes: 4-5-3-6-2-7-1-8 for all races.

SCORING: 12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2 for both individual and relay events.

REPORTING TO THE CLERK OF COURSE: Participants should report to the northwest corner of the track after their event has been called. Three calls will be made: first call, second call and last call. Athletes should report after the second call has been made.

FULLY AUTOMATIC TIMING: A FAT Timing system will be utilized during the meet. A recall starter will be located in the press box in the event of a timing failure.

STARTING BLOCKS: will be furnished.

CAMPS: NO ONE is allowed on the track or infield other than the competing contestants and meet officials. All non-participating athletes must stay outside of the chain link fence. Please keep camp areas clean and pick up debris at the conclusion of the meet.

SHOT AND DISCUS: will be measured and weighed prior to the start of the meet. Athletes should report to the storage room on the south side of the concession stand where your implements(s) will be certified and marked. Illegal implements will be impounded and may be picked up after the conclusion of the event.

POLE VAULT VERIFICATION: Coaches must sign a verification sheet at the scratch meeting indicating all equipment is legal and their athletes are abiding by National Federation and MSHSL rules.

SPIKES: MUST BE 3/16” pyramids or less.

CONCESSIONS: will be sold the entire meet by the Medford Student Council.

ADMISSION: Students $5.00 and Adults $7.00. Please put out an announcement to your fans that admission will be charged.

BUSSES: Park your busses in the west side of the parking lot.

STARTING HEIGHTS: for the pole vault and high jump will be determined by the seeding…. we can do this via email or at the coaches meeting on Tuesday, May 20th.

DRESSING FACILITIES: will not be available. For any particular need contact the

meet manager.

FIELD EVENTS Boy’s long jump will jump first followed by girls. Girl’s triple jump will jump first followed by boys. Both long jump and triple jump will be run cafeteria style. The finals will be run using the same format. The top nine will advance to the finals after the prelims. Three attempts will be allowed in the prelims and an additional three in the finals. The girl’s and boy’s high jump will be run at the same time (separate pits).The girl’s pole vault will compete first followed by boy’s pole vault. Boy’s shot will throw first followed by girls. Girl’s discus will throw first followed by boys. The top nine will advance to the finals after the prelims. Three attempts will be allowed in the prelims and an additional three in the finals.

SURFACES: The shot and discus areas are concrete. The track, runways, and high jump approach are all weather surfaces. We will provide chalk or cut in half tennis balls for marking the track. Marks on the triple jump, long jump, and pole vault runways must be placed off of the track surface. Tape is NOT to be used anywhere to mark on the all weather surface.

AWARDS: A team trophy will be awarded to the team champions and runner up. Medals will be awarded one through six.
