BMW VISION NEXT 100 continues its world tour in Beijing
Concepts | May 3rd, 2016 by HoratiuBoeriu1
This week, BMW will continue its 100th years celebration in Beijing where the BMW VISION NEXT 100 concept will make an appearance. The highly innovative futuristic car made its debut last month in Munich and will be touring the world throughout 2016. Next month, BMW Group will reveal two more concept cars from MINI and Rolls-Royce with a premiere scheduled for London.
“In two days’ time, I will present the “BMW VISION NEXT 100” on its World Tour in Beijing,” Harald Krüger, BMW CEO said today. “Two more vision vehicles – from MINI and Rolls-Royce – will be unveiled in London in June. All three vehicles will be shown in Los Angeles in October – along with our vision “on two wheels”. So, as you can see: We are working hard on creating the future.”
In developing the BMW VISION NEXT 100, the main objective was to create not an anonymous vehicle but one that is highly personalized and fully geared to meet the driver’s every need. For the BMW VISION NEXT 100, the design team specifically took into account all the trends and technological developments that will be most relevant to BMW in the decades ahead. But they also took many of their cues from innovations and designs of the past.
The car has two driving modes, one of them involving fully autonomous functions. But even when you’re driving, you’re in ‘Boost Mode’ with augmented-reality guiding you, projecting the ideal steering line and speed onto the windscreen. The augmented-reality display will also project hidden hazards into your field of view.
In Ease Mode, the car transforms physically, moving the steering wheel out of the way, relaxing the center console away from the driver, and making seats and door panels feel like a lounge setting.
U.S. customers will have the chance to see the innovative concept in October at the 2016 LA Auto Show.

We get more details of BMW’s Vision NEXT 100 Concept
Concepts, Interesting | April 2nd, 2016 by Nico DeMattia0
When BMW unveiled its Vision NEXT 100 Concept, in honor of the brand’s 100 year anniversary, it stunned with its groundbreaking design and futuristic technologies. It was like something out of Minority Report, with flexible skin-like materialover the wheels and impressive autonomous technology. However, all we were able to see was the concept as a static object. Now, we’re able to see some of it in action and it’s very impressive.
The main focal point of the NEXT 100 Concept was its flexible wheel covers, that are able to flex around the turning wheel. In this video, we get to take a look at that feature in action and it’s very cool, indeed. Apparently, it works by using a bunch of different rods and actuators that are more complicated than they are useful, but this is also just a concept and this sort of technology isn’t likely to be implemented any time soon, if ever at all. But it’s certainly impressive to behold.
One of the other interesting aspects of the NEXT 100 is the interior, which we now get a closer look at. It’s almost vegan, as nearly all the materials are made from other recycled materials and there is no animal hide whatsoever. The only animal product in the NEXT 100 interior is a bit of cashmere wool, but that isn’t made by hurting an animal, so it’s acar vegans could get behind.
But my favorite part of the Vision NEXT 100 is the advanced HUD. BMW is envisioning a Head-Up display that incorporates the entire windshield, but that isn’t the good part. BMW wants to implement racing lines onto the road ahead of you, via its HUD. That’s flipping cool and would be something I would want. Now, racing lines would likely cross over lanes into the other side of traffic at times, as that would be the fastest way to get around corners, but BMW is trying to remedy that. In the future, BMW is predicting, that roadways and cars will be interconnected and cars will know where other cars are on the road, so the NEXT 100’s advanced HUD would know if oncoming cars are approaching within 500 feet and would alert the driver so as to not cross over. It’s clever stuff and would be genuinely fun.
The BMW Vision NEXT 100 is a really cool concept, one of BMW’s best, but most of its technology is not likely to be seen for a very long time, if ever. And that’s disappointing. However, it is showing a willingness by BMW to actually make some serious changes in the way we look at the automobile. Using tech like flexible body skin, advanced Head-Up display technology and interiors that are developed using entirely recycled resources make the NEXT 100 a car for the future. Hopefully the cars BMW actually does put out in the future are as ambitious as this.

What will digital BMWs of the future look like?
Concepts | March 13th, 2016 by Nico DeMattia2
We just saw BMW’s VISION NEXT 100 design concept that debuted for BMW’s 100th birthday. It is one of the more interesting concepts BMW has put out in a very long time, featuring a flexible skin-like texture surrounding the wheels to keep them aerodynamic even while turning, a design similar to that of the BMW GINA Concept of years back. While the fabric-covered wheels might not actually be a realistic design, it does make us wonder what a car of the future might actually be like, what technologies would it actually have?
I remember when I was a kid, all of my friends and I thought that by the time we could drive, we’d be driving flying cars. Clearly, we didn’t know what the hell we were talking about, but we weren’t the only ones to dream big for the future of the automobile. People have been predicting wild things like flying cars for decades now. The future may not hold flying cars, but technology isadvancing at an alarming rate and featuring tech we never thought possible.
BMW is currently working on some pretty amazing technology itself and dreaming big. We saw a glimpse into the near future at this past 2016 CES, with concept cars like the Mirrorless BMW i8 and the i Vision Future Interaction Concept. But BMW isn’t looking at changing the way the automobile drives, such as making them fly, but the Bavarian brand is changing the way we drive the automobile.
The BMW i Vision Future Concept showed off touch-sensitive interior trim, secondary screens and increased network connectivity. BMW’s Mirrorless i8 concept showed us an i8 with advanced cameras replacing the mirrors, something that isn’t necessarily a new idea but BMW showed us one that looks like it could be production-ready right now. BMW also recently showed its VISION NEXT 100 concept which showed us a car that could be both fun to drive and also driven autonomously. The latter of which seems to be the future of the automobile.
BMW also recently showed us some new head-up display technology, having navigation information, safety warnings and other informationacross the entire windshield, not just in one small graphic ahead of the driver. It showed things like highlighting pedestrians crossing the road, ever after they had passed behind an obstruction. Tech like this could make driving safer, save lives and even make it more fun and interesting.
In the future, it’s likely that all of this tech will be implemented into automobiles, as it’s all realistic. Plus, BMW plans to add increased connectivity and the ability to integrate owners’ daily lives, as shown with the Internet of Things concept at CES. The Bavarians are planning an incredible amount of new technology for the future of the automobile and, whatever cars of the future will be like, they should be exciting.Cars may not fly in the future, but they will impress.
What do you think future BMW’s will look like?

BMW VISION NEXT 100 Gets Its First TV Commercial
| April 6th, 2016 by Gabriel Nica6
The BMW VISION NEXT 100 Concept was unveiled last month for BMW’s 100th anniversary and it was shown in a few promotional videos. Now, BMW launches a 46-second TV ad featuring the highly futuristic concept driving alongside its siblings on an open road. The footage shows cars from throughout the history of the brand, including the iconic 2002, 507 Roadster, M1 and many, many others, turning into a real feast for BMW fans around the world.
The BMW VISION NEXT 100 was created to celebrate both the past and the future and show us what the Bavarians are trying to bring out in the next two or three decades. The goal behind the cool concept was to show the world that technology should be as intuitive as possible to operate and experience while the interactions between human, machine and surroundings to be seamless.
And that’s a bigger issue than you may think. Recent studies show that the new technologies offered by manufacturers are useful but most owners might find them too difficult to use and might just prefer doing things the old fashion way instead. Engineering technologies that can be used as intuitively as possible may very well be the key for a drastic improvement in our quality of life in the future.
Let’s have a look.
