Activity # 1

Describe you favorite print, TV, and a miscellaneous advertisements. Consider what advertising techniques and appeals are used in each ad?

Activity # 2

Survey 15 people of your choice you know who are above the age of 3. Ask them what opinions they have about advertisements. Here are some possible questions you can ask.

Do ads help you obtain information about products or services?

What brands or logos do you see most often advertised?

What types of promotional gimmicks do you like? (Puzzles, word searches, mazes, games, health tips, recipes, cartoons with your fictional character or celebrity, music, etc.)

What types of sales promotions do you like most? (Coupons, discounts, contests, rebates, free samples, displays, etc.)

What types of words or phrases stick out most in your mind from ads that try to persuade you to buy their product? (New and improved, concentrated, extra strength, etc.)

What types of items have you received from products or services to help you remember their company or store when you are wanting their product? (Refrigerator magnets with delivery information, pens, hats, etc.)

What jingles (slogans) can you recite from memory? (One call, that’s all, etc.)

Superbowl Commercials

With a partner, watch and evaluate at least 5 Superbowl Commercials from the following site. Write a summary answering the five basic rules of the advertisements for each commercial.

Get into groups of 4 or more and research a product or service of your choice.

Prepare a commercial for the product or service your group has chosen. You will want to you the positive techniques leaned in this past unit.

Keep in mind the following when considering your advertisement

Who is your audience you are trying to sell to?

Is the product or service a need or want of the audience you have

chosen?

What specific techniques and/or appeals are your going to use to sell

your product?
