Welcome to 8th grade Math! We are looking forward to a great year. Math 8 is an on-level eighth grade course of study with a curriculum that allows students to deepen their understanding of the foundational concepts of Algebra and Geometry. There is a strong emphasis on problem solving and algebraic reasoning. For more information, you can visit the Cobb County website ( and click on “Common Core GPS” under the “Parents” tab.

-Stay on task and focused.

-Speak only at appropriate times.

-Be respectful of people and property.

-No agenda, no pass.

-See Student Agenda for Code of Conduct.

Grading Procedures:

As we continue to focus on high student achievement, our grading procedures are aligned with and reflect the student mastery of the Common Core Standards for Math 8. Please expect to see the following changes on your student’s grade reports:

- Assignments will be named based on the standard(s) being assessed.

-Grades will be based on the Standards-based Grading Scale (see attached).

Resources:

At the beginning of each unit, students will be given consumable math resources through our new textbook adoption. They will also have online access by using the following information:

/login.do

Username: ccsd(student ID)

Password: cobbmath1

Because 8th grade students will be taking the Math Georgia Milestones (which are replacing the CRCT), we strongly recommend that our students attend as many tutoring sessions as possible. We also suggest that students practice as often as possible on IXL. They may go to using their student ID as their username and “happy” as the password. They should practice 8th grade and Algebra 1 standards.

***Attendance and hard work are very important for each student to succeed in Math – your cooperation will be greatly appreciated! Feel free to email us at , ,,, , . We are looking forward to a great year!
