Orientation Guide
Hours:
On school days the Media Center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Basic Media Center Rules
1.Students must have a pass in their planner, signed by an academic teacher if they wish to use the Media Center during the school day (excluding lunch). Students who do not have their planners will be sent back to class.
2. Students must sign in at the front door when coming to the Media Center
3. Back Packs, Jackets, and Coats are not allowed in the Media Center, they should be left in a student's locker or at the front of the Media Center.
Library Fines
A late fee of $.10/day is charged on all late books. Students will not be allowed to check out books until all fines are paid.
Athena Card Catalog
The Media Center uses the same computer catalog system as the Edwardsville Middle School. To use the Athena Catalog simply type the subject, title, or author you are looking for and wait for the computer to retrieve the information. To find the book in the collection you will need the Call Number. The Call Numbers begin with a number or one of the following letters F, PB, R, OV, SC, VC.
Computer Lab:
Students with an Acceptable Use Agreement on file may use the Computer Lab. Your Student ID must be displayed on the top of the monitor at all times.
A Printer is available for use by students at no cost. This printer is to be used solely for school related work. Anyone caught printing materials not related to school will be referred to the office.

COL= Collections (directly behind the paperbacks)
F= Fiction
OV= Oversized (these are located at the end of the general collection and Reference stacks)
PB= Paperback
PR= Permanent Reserve (Most of these items may be checked out, ask at the Circulation Desk)
PROF= Professional Studies (these may only be checked out by teachers)
R= Reference (these items may not be check out)
SC= Story Collection
VC= Video Collection (these may only be check out by teachers)

Current Periodicals
Most current periodicals are located in the Periodical Reading Area. Back issues of periodicals are kept behind the circulation desk.
Indexes are kept on the Index Table this is located nest to the Atlas Case on the upper level of the Media Center. You may also use the FIRST SEARCH on-line database to locate articles. For a complete list of magazines and newspapers to which the Media Center subscribes, consult the Media Center Web Page or inquire at the Circulation Desk.
Magazines may not be checked out. If you need to make a photocopy, a copier is available in the Media Center for $.15/copy. There is a change machine also available for student use located on the circulation counter, the machine changes $1.00 bills only.

The Media Center Web Page can be a valuable tool for research and home work before, during, or after school.

ü Links to all databases available to EHS Students and staff (these include First Search, E-Library, and Contemporary Authors On-line).
ü Links to homework help and informational web sites.
ü Explanations of Media Center rules and downloadable copies of Media Center forms (i.e. Acceptable Use Agreement, Interlibrary Loan Form)
For a hard copy list of all databases available to EHS students, ask at the Circulation desk.
Lost ID's and Passwords
Replacement ID's are $5.00 (request in the Media Center)
Replacement Passwords are $2.00. (request in main office B-D lunch)
Fee is due when request is made.
