Having attended school in 3 different countries, both private and public, I may have a different insight into how schools may best serve children. As a Chartered Financial Consultant, I have experience in dealing with budgets, expenses, and how best to utilize the school's resources.

I am thrilled to submit my candidacy as Parent Member of the SGC. Next year, my boys will be in KG & 2nd at REES. We are transferring from Atlanta Academy so our kids can learn at their path & pace towards their optimal potential through an integrated, hands-on approach. I know River Eves is best positioned to give them this environment.
I have a PhD in Social Psychology & applied it in public health & education. At the Centers for Disease Control & Prev, my work informed the growth of the whole child. Exposing our kids to fitness, arts, languages, & creative ways for showing their mastery is critical for academic growth. I can bring this knowledge to our Council so that we continue to excel in growing our kid’s mind, hearts, & bodies. At Fulton County Schools, I use my knowledge of data, analysis, & evaluation to answer questions like: How do we know if something is working well? How do we know that resources (e.g., technology) are helpful? Every day, I answer these questions for our schools as they monitor progress of school initiatives.
I wish to serve on the REES SGC because I know this role will position me well to serve our staff, teachers, kids, & parents. I want to continue the movement towards integrated STEM curriculum & contribute to sound monitoring of our strategic plan & budget. Through partnership with PTA, I will stay accountable to you for making sure that I work hard for what is best for our kids.
Looking forward to contributing,
Mahnaz Charania, PhD

I firmly believe that a strong education is the key for our future generations to be successful. My oldest of three children just started Kindergarten this year and I want to do everything in my power to make sure that my own children as well all children in the community have every possible opportunity that they should desire or need and its up to us as community members in partnership with school administrators to enable such opportunities.
All parents want and demand the very best education for their children. However, in order for that to happen, we all have a responsibility to do our part to provide support to our school administrators.
As far as my background is concerned, I am a management consulting executive focused on Banking Technology and I hold an MBA with a specialization in Business Strategy. I believe that this combination of skills and education would be helpful in the following ways:
- Providing insight in terms of the types of skills we need to make sure our baked into our curriculum (we are training our kids for jobs that don't yet exist)
- Offering up suggestions and providing hands-on support to improve/create processes/metrics
- Providing feedback from a parent's standpoint on the perceived quality of education/support our children receive at school
- Facilitate networking opportunities with other local business executives
I am looking forward to the opportunity to support River Eves in any way I can.

I wish to serve on the SGC so that I may be involved in the decisions and plans that go into making our school system and our elementary school the best they can be. I currently serve as co-VP of Ways and Means on the Holcomb Bridge Middle School PTA, have served on River Eves' LSAC, and continually volunteer and serve those schools on a continual basis.

As a third year, first grade teacher within the Fulton County School system, it is my desire to be a teacher leader at River Eves Elementary School. This past year, I have seen the influential role that the Student Governance Council (SGC) has played at my school, and I want to be a part of the positive planning, decision-making, and changes that are taking place at River Eves. I believe that my experiences qualify me as a perfect candidate for the SGC. I am currently serving as the grade chair on my 1st grade team and as a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) co-chair. Within these positions, I have created agendas, led meetings, and planned next steps. As grade level chair, I have organized and conducted grade level and data meetings as a liaison between my grade level team and administration. As a PBIS co-chair, I have assisted in the development of a school-wide behavior matrix, behavior recognition system, character education units, and student and staff reward choice boards. I recently co-presented “P.B.I.S Start-Up Tools,” at the state PBIS conference. This presentation was made to state, district, and county level professionals. As a homeroom teacher, I work well and communicate effectively with my peers, parents, administration, and community members. I believe that I would be an asset to the Student Governance Council. Thank you for your consideration.

I graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Education. I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade, and RTI for 3rd - 5th grade. I would love to be included in potentially contributing to positive changes at the school and supporting fellow teachers. I understand the board helps make decisions for the structure of the school and how we plan to be different from other Fulton schools. I would love to be involved with the planning stages of both the structure and infrastructure of the building. I have a passionate educator and would love the opportunity to help to further assist REES.
