ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

EDVOS is the specialist family violence service in the Eastern Metropolitan Region and covers the municipalities of Boroondara, Manningham, Whitehorse, Knox, Monash, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges.

We provide an integrated range of support and services to empower women and children who have experienced and are responding to family violence.We focus on ensuring the safety of women and children, and the accountability of perpetrators.We provide support, information, case management, risk assessment, safety planning, community education, programs for pet safety and a strong network of referral pathways to other services.

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Wellbeing
Comply with the requirements of Victorian Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act 2004 and related OHS procedures and Safe Operating Procedures developed by EDVOS, including to:

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The General Manager, Innovation and Development (GMID) is a key leadership position that has responsibility for enhancing the organisation’s established reputation as a leading provider of specialist family violence services in the sector. The GM ID will be responsible for the implementation of a range of new programs and activities that will enhance the safety and wellbeing of women and children in the region. The GMID is expected to lead and drive high level strategic and operational aspects and programs of EDVOS’ Strategic Priorities by fostering project planning and development and innovation at all levels of the organisation. This position will assist in advancing the change agenda of the organisation and will also play a key role in collaborating with all levels of management in implementing, monitoring, and reviewing organisational strategy. The GMID reports to the ExecutiveDirector and works closely with other General Managers, Senior Management team and external stakeholders.

POSITION SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Innovation and Development

  • Apply knowledge of the family violence sector and the government initiatives to advance the organisation's strategic goals
  • Actively seek current evidence-based resources and research relevant national and international practices
  • Enhance existing practices and programs, and develop and implement new practices and programs in line with EDVOS’ Strategic Priorities
  • Provide advice, regular updates and reports to the Executive Director, Board and Senior Management Team
  • Identify, develop and deliver strategies that support the sustainability of the organisation, to best position the organisation for future government funding opportunities
  • Drive the performance of the organisation against the stated EDVOS’s Strategic Priorities and its associated project plans
  • Create and maintain processes that foster a culture of innovations at all levels of the organization including a process for trailing, and measuring the effectiveness of, innovative development projects and ideas
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy for the organisation
  • Develop and build innovative programs (such as EDVOS Education and Training, EDVOS Counselling) to support EDVOS to achieve strategic priorities
  • With the guidance of the Executive Director, align EDVOS’ research agenda to the strategic and practice needs of the organisation by working with Australian and international stakeholders

Staff Management

  • Translate the strategic plan into operational key deliverables that meet the needs of theorganisation and staff
  • Ensure that all Innovation and Development Staff are aware of and adhere to the organisations Vision,Mission and Values, policies and procedures
  • Provide day to day management, support, guidance and leadership to staff within the Innovation and Development division and assist them in the development of individual workplans to effectively manage their responsibilities and workloads
  • Undertake regular, formal supervision and annual performance reviews with staff that promotes wellbeing, reflective practice and professional development opportunities
  • Identify areas of priority and improvement for the Innovation and Developmentteam
  • Manage the recruitment, selection, onboarding and induction of Innovation and Development services staff in consultation with HR Officer and General Manager Corporate
  • Manage workplace changes, issues and performance management processes and exit processes with staff, where required in consultation with HR Officer
  • Undertake workforce planning in conjunction with the Executive team and HR Officer

  • As a member of the Senior Management Team, participate fully in the collective responsibility of delivering on organisational objectives, including through engagement and collaborative effort with employees at all levels in the organisation.

  • Participate in relevant Committees and Working Groups, as appropriate for the role and / or directed by the Executive Director

Financial Management

  • Contribute to the development of the annual operational budget and ensure effective management in line with acceptable operational budget expenditure
  • Manage effective processing of payment of fees and billing for designated services
  • Negotiate, implement and monitor the financial operation of the Innovation and Development team to ensure services remain within budget and deliver key targets, goals and objectives
  • Manage the Innovation and Development budget and regularly review financial performance and compliance in consultation with the Finance Manager
  • Support the development of funding submissions, project and research proposals
  • Ensure appropriate financial administration and storage of funding information

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in business, marketing, communications, psychology, social or behavioural sciences or other area specific to the functions held in the Innovation and Development portfolio
  • Previous experience and record of achievements at a senior management level in the not-for-profit or corporate sector, including in strategic planning and business reporting
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading staff in a values-based and outcomes-focussed manner
  • Previous experience and success in the delivery of innovative projects, to assist in the achievement of organisational strategic plans
  • Understanding of project management and change management principles and application of relevant associated tools
  • In-depth understanding and current knowledge of the family violence sector from local, regional, state, national and international perspectives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, and highly developed negotiation and strategic relationship management skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities for change and lead improvement initiatives with strong strategic planning skills
  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, including an ability to prepare high level reports to Executives and external parties
  • An ability to manage a multitude of complex tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010; plus the current legislated 9.5% Superannuation contribution. While legislation allows, Salary Packaging is offered with this position.
