Online Delivery Models
The Master of Science Degree in Reading (Reading Specialist Licensure PreK-12) is offered with two Options, both of which prepare the teacher for Reading Specialist Licensure. Initial licensure may be granted by the State of Kansas to the holder of a valid five-year professional Kansas teaching license upon completion of this master’s degree and an earned passing score on the Praxis Reading Specialist subject assessment (Code 0300). Thesis Option (Option I) and Coursework Option (Option III) are described in the current University Catalog. NOTE: There are five important procedural steps which are the candidate’s responsibility while he/she is pursuing a master’s degree.
1. The student must apply for and be admitted to a degree program through the Office of Graduate Studies.
2. The student must apply for candidacy in conference with his/her advisor.
3. The student must petition the Graduate Office to graduate.
4. The candidate must complete a portfolio during his/her last semester of enrollment.
5. The candidate must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above at the time of licensure.
