Simulation with Cellular Automata
Cellular Automata have been proven a valuable simulation tool for researchers coming from different fields and scientists with variable disciplines. Cellular Automata provide natural models for physical systems and processes where time and space are discrete, the interactions are local and systems evolve in time following simple local rules. In such a manner Cellular Automata have been extensively and successfully applied to any possible scientific field and as a result the real challenge could be considered to hardly find any area not connected with them or computed by them or simulated by them.
In connection with the ACRI 2014 (11th International Conference on Cellular Automata for Research and Industry) held in Krakow, Poland on September22-25, 2014, we invite submissions for a Special Issue of Simulation journal on Simulation with Cellular Automata. This Special Issue addresses simulation tools, computational structures and modeling methodologies that use the Cellular Automata as a fundamental computational primitive. The Special issue contributes to highlightingthe advantages and the applicability of Cellular Automata as computational model in different scientific fields and to raising the interestand knowledge for both new entrants into the field as well as for researchers already working on particular aspects of Cellular Automata.
Tentative authors are invited to submit original unpublished works on topics including but not limited to the following:
- Physical and Life Sciences with Cellular Automata: Chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, biomedicine, sociology, and cognition all simulated with Cellular Automata.
- Engineering with Cellular Automata: System engineering and design with Cellular Automata, computer vision, traffic systems, robotics, and mechatronics.
- Computer Science with Cellular Automata: High performance Cellular Automata computers, real-time Cellular Automata systems, and simulation software.
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts submitted to this special issue for possible publication in SIMULATIONmust be original and must not be under consideration for publication in any other journal or conference. Previously published or accepted conference/workshop manuscripts must contain at least 30-40% new material to be considered for the special issue. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the paper submission system to the SIMULATION Manuscript Submission System. During submission please select paper type “Special Issue: Cellular Automata” under Manuscript Category in SIMULATION Manuscript Submission System. Furthermore in the title page, author(s) must specifically mark that the paper is intended for this special issue as follows: "Simulation with Cellular Automata". All manuscripts must be prepared and formatted according to the journal publication guidelines which can be found in Author Guidelines for SIMULATION. Papers will be reviewed following the journal standard review process. Please contact the guest editors if you have any questions.
