The Central Flyway/NETWS Joe Gabig Memorial Award - $100

(DEADLINE June 30, 2010)

The purpose of this award is to 1) encourage high quality research in migratory game bird conservation and management by graduate and undergraduate students at colleges and universities in Nebraska; 2) promote the purposes and goals of the Central Flyway Council; and 3) honor the memory of P. Joseph Gabig and his significant contributions to scientifically-based conservation and management of migratory game birds in the Central Flyway.

Criteria for the award shall be: 1) the recipient shall be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in a Nebraska college or university; 2) the recipient shall have demonstrated leadership and/or made a significant contribution to the science of conservation or management of migratory game birds or their habitats. Additionally, students demonstrating exceptional quantitative skills and/or support for maintaining migratory game bird hunting traditions should be given preference for this award. Nominations are being solicited from any faculty member of any University or College in Nebraska, using the above criteria. Justification:

Student Travel Award - $500

(DEADLINE October 15th, 2008)

Eligibility and Amount:

•Student Travel Award for travel to National TWS meeting, November 8-12, Miami, FL.

•Undergraduate or graduate

•$500 limit

Stipulations:

•Scholarship is on a reimbursement only basis

•The Student must submit an abstract to present at National TWS or, if not selected, must present a poster.

•The student must present their research to the general membership of the State Meeting, in February, 2008.

How To Apply:

Applications must be received by October 1st, 2008. Students must submit: a brief description (400 words or less) of their research and expected benefits to wildlife conservation and management in Nebraska; two letters of recommendation; biographical sketch of the applicant including education, honors, awards, membership in organizations, and professional goals.

Nomination: Professional Of The Year

Each year the Nebraska Chapter of the Wildlife Society presents its Professional of the year award to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the wildlife profession in Nebraska. To nominate an individual complete and return this form, along with your reasons for your nomination, by NOVEMBER 1st, 2008, to:

Awards Criteria
1.The nominee must be a current member of Nebraska Chapter - The Wildlife Society.
2.The nominee must have performed at least one unique, important contribution towards wildlife management in Nebraska in the past year.
3. The nominating person should provide additional supporting information about nominee; for example - college degrees, job history, published papers, environmental activities, etc.
4.The nominations are for the current calendar year beginning October 1.

The Nebraska Chapter of the Wildlife Society presents its Career Professional award to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the wildlife profession in Nebraska over their career. To nominate an individual complete this form and send it to:

Awards Criteria
1.The nominee must belong to a state, regional or national affiliate of The Wildlife Society.
2.The nominee shall have provided significant contribution towards wildlife management in Nebraska.
3.The nominating person shall list at least 3 (preferably more) major accomplishments the nominee has done for wildlife management in their lifetime.
4.Thenominating person should list professional awards or citations the nominee may have received through the years. 5.The nominee shall have worked in the wildlife profession a minimum of 15 (or 10) years.
6.The nominating person must provide additional supporting information about nominee; for example - college degrees, job history, published papers, environmental activities, etc.
