Congratulations to Mr C’s Hand-Crafted Pies who picked up The James Hutton Institute Excellence in Food & Drink Produce Award at the recent Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Business Star Awards.

The Awards have been created to recognise business excellence and celebrate those who’ve made the very most of the opportunities they’ve spotted even in these tumultuous market conditions and, according to the judges, the “entries were very impressive”.

This year’s event, hosted by popular media duo Maureen Young and Gary Robinson, attracted the largest audience ever to the Crieff Hydro black tie gathering. Commenting on their win, Maureen said: “In this - the national year of food and drink - it was heartening to see four such outstanding category finalists. Their winner - in the words of head judge, Scotland's top chef Andrew Fairlie - is creating some of the best (if not THE best) of its type he has ever tasted. Truly unique, original and artisan, our winning product was judged "exceptional" in a category brimming with outstanding competition.”

On accepting the award, Robert Corrigan of Mr C’s Hand-Crafted Pies said: “To have praise for our products from such a Scottish Icon and the other judges, made myself and my team very proud indeed. We were up against some stiff competition, so no predictions could be made. This was very much a team effort. The judges tasted about eight different products showing the diversity of our fillings and we were honoured to receive this award.”

It is very rare to find a pie maker of Robert Corrigan's ability, quality and commitment. His pies are of unquestionable authenticity with perfectly seasoned fillings, encased inside a traditional hot water crust pastry and all evenly baked. The first thing I look for in a pie is the quality of jelly both in terms of fill and texture. Robert uses genuine pigs' trotter stock to give his pies a melt in the mouth moistness.
As a heritage retailer fortnum and mason are proud to sell Robert's pies.
