3. NAS Sigonella is two separate installations, commonly referred to as NAS I

and NAS II. They are geographically separated by about eight miles. The

NAVCOMTELSTA, together with most of the other core mission operational

FACILITIES, are at NAS II. Most of the personnel support services, such as the

NavyExchange, Commissary, Hospital, and the schools, are on NAS I. Gymnasiums

and pools are at both sites.

4. ALL PERSONNEL WILL NEED A NO FEE PASSPORT OR TRAVEL PASSPORT BEFORE

ARRIVINGTO ITALY. ACCORDING TO ITALIAN IMMIGRATION POLICY, FAMILY MEMBERS OF

MILITARY ANDCIVILIAN PERSONNEL ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A VISA FROM THE ITALIAN

CONSULATE/EMBASSY. CONTACT YOUR PASSPORT OFFICER OR PSD TO START THIS PROCESS

IMMEDIATELY. THERE ARE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SHIPPING PETS. CONTACT YOUR

SPONSORFOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

5. On arrival, you and your family will go through a comprehensive

indoctrination period at NAS I to help you adjust to living abroad and to allow

you to get settled as quickly as possible. This is a well-established routine

and any issues you may have should be easily resolved at that time. As you

might expect, some rules, customs, and priorities are different in Italy than

in the U.S. The differences can sometimes lead to frustration, but this soon

passes.
