RULES FOR THE CUP

In order to expedite play, to minimize frustration and profanity, and to provide an enjoyable Trail experience, we do not play golf on the trip, but a modified version of it. To that end, we will enact the following rules. As always, golf should be gentlemanly game, so please respect these guidelines and ask for your foursome's consensus if in doubt.

·  All of your handicaps have been adjusted according to USGA specifications based on the slope and rating of each course/tee combination.

·  We will play lost balls and out-of-bounds as lateral hazards rather than stroke-and-distance. When you lose a ball or hit one O.B., pick a reasonable drop area where you think your ball was lost, or crossed OB, drop, and take a penalty stroke.

·  Bumping the ball to improve your lie will be allowed in the fairway and the rough. Please keep it within 12" of the original ball location, and bump so that you do not improve your stance or the flight line of the shot (e.g., taking a tree out of play). Bumping is not allowed in any hazards (bunkers or water hazards). Should we encounter standing water or washed-out bunkers, we may allow raking and placing; just keep it reasonable and ask a non-teammate playing with you for consent.

·  Gimmies are up to the discretion of a non-teammate playing with you.

·  Except for the 4-man 2-best ball (Saturday morning), there will be a maximum score of triple-bogey per hole in stroke play events. Favor will be shown for natural triples vs. picked-up triples, so please note pick-ups on the scorecard with a plus sign. For the 4-man 2-best ball, play the hole out until you are at a net double-bogey or worse.

·  One breakfast ball will be permitted on the first tee of the morning round each day.

·  Please make sure your scorecards are turned in to Mowchan or me after your rounds. We need hole-by-hole scores to properly keep score, so telling us you shot 92 won’t cut it. If you would like a copy of your card make one before turning it in to us.

11th Annual Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail

Team Competition – “The Trail Cup”

We will be split into four 4-man teams. Handicaps, in parenthesis, will be taken into account when applicable. These are your normalized handicap indices; course handicaps will be adjusted based upon the course slope and rating for each event.

Saturday Morning

18 holes – Grand National Links 4-Man 2-Best Ball w/Handicap – Stableford Scoring

ORANGE TEES

Each golfer plays his own round. Their net score on each hole is converted to Stableford points using the following scale:

Net Score / Points
Double Eagle / 9
Eagle / 5
Birdie / 3
Par / 1
Bogey / -1
Double Bogey and worse / -2

The 2 best scores for a team on each hole count towards the team score. Course handicaps are indicated in parenthesis below. The highest team point total wins. Trail Cup points are awarded as follows: 23 / 15 / 10 / 7.

There will also be 2 long drive holes, each worth a point. (Probably #6 and #15).

8:20 / 8:28 / 8:36 / 8:42
Lanoue (8) / Mowchan (10) / Dave Shipp (10) / Kris Paul (19)
Droll (19) / Brian Shipp (8) / Thielen (19) / Minniear (26)
Rumely (10) / Boessler (22) / Diller (21) / Gotler (11)
Walpe (11) / Kevin Paul (16) / Franklin (7) / Mullen (7)

Saturday Afternoon

9 holes – Grand National Lake 2-Man Alternate shot (stroke play)

ORANGE TEES

Each player hits a tee shot. Then they play each other’s ball on their 2nd shots. Lying 2 with both balls, the team decides which ball they want to use to finish the hole, and alternate hitting shots until the ball is holed. The golfer who hit the chosen ball off the tee strikes the 3rd shot. This is a handicapped event, and you are competing stroke play against the field (not match play). Each twosome’s handicap (indicated after second player’s name) is 60% of the lower player’s course handicap plus 40% of higher player’s (USGA formula, not mine!). Winning team is low net. Trail Cup points: 9/7/5/3/2/1/1/0.

2:04 / 2:12 / 2:20 / 2:28
Walpe / Dave Shipp / Brian Shipp / Rumely
Kevin Paul (7) / Droll (7.5) / Minniear (8.5) / Kris Paul (7.5)
Lanoue / Mullen / Gotler / Mowchan
Diller (7.5) / Boessler (7) / Franklin (7.5) / Thielen (7.5)

Sunday Morning

18 holes – Grand National Lake Skins (Flighted – A’s vs A’s, B’s vs B’s, etc.)

ORANGE TEES

Low net score on the hole wins the skin. You will receive the number of strokes off of the lowest handicap in your flight, as shown after your name in the tee-time table below. You get the strokes on the hardest holes as indicated on the scorecard. If no one wins the hole, no skin is awarded; there are no carryovers. Each skin is worth 1 Trail Cup point. If the skin is won with a natural birdie or better, add an additional point. Each team will also select a “wild card” hole, and any skins points won on these 4 holes will be doubled. The “wild card” holes will be announced on the first tee.

8:20 / 8:28 / 8:36 / 8:42
Mullen / Mowchan / Kevin Paul / Franklin

Gotler (3) / Walpe (1) / Thielen (4) / Minniear (7)
Sunday Afternoon

18-holes – Grand National Short Low Net Score Tournament

TEES TBD

This event will be a net stroke play tournament. Since the short course does not have a USGA slope, we will use course-neutral (unadjusted) handicaps. Your finish in the tournament earns your team Trail Cup points as follows:

Finish / Points
1 / 2.000
2 / 1.875
3 / 1.750
4 / 1.625

Monday Morning

9 holes – Grand National Links 2-man Best Ball (stroke play)

ORANGE TEES

Each team will field 2, 2-man teams in this handicapped best-ball stroke play event. Each player plays their own ball, and the lower net score on each hole counts as the team’s score. The first two players listed are one team, then second two the other team. Your 9-hole course handicap is listed in parenthesis. Note that you will play this format for the first 9 holes, then start the four-man scramble on the 10th. Trail Cup points: 9/7/5/3/2/1/1/0.
