Role /Examinations Invigilator

Purpose / To assist the examinations officer in conducting internal and public examinations smoothly and efficiently.

Accountabilities / Main duties
- To conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and Maiden Erlegh School instructions.
- To play a key role in upholding the integrity of the examination/assessment process
- To report to and be briefed by the exams officer prior to each exam session
- To keep confidential exam papers and materials secure before, during and after exams
- To ensure exam rooms are set out according to the instructions
- To admit candidates into exam rooms
- To seat, and instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams
- To check and distribute the correct exam papers and materials to candidates
- To deal with candidate queries
- To supervise and observe candidates at all times and be vigilant throughout exams.
- To keep disruption in exam rooms to a minimum
- To deal with emergencies or irregularities effectively
- To record and report all incidents, disruption or irregularities and call for support from the exams officer as necessary or instructed
- To deal with candidate questions according to the regulations
- To escort and supervise candidates outside the examination room in cases of emergency, ill health, or if candidates needto use the toilet;
- To instruct candidates in finishing their exams and to collect exam scripts
- To dismiss candidates from the exam room
- To ensure scripts are sorted in candidate number order
- To securely return all exam scripts and exam materials to the exams officer
- To check for, record and report any graffiti on examination desks
- To ensure that the examination room is clear and tidied ready for the next session.
- To attend training, update or review sessions as required
- To undertake, where required, other duties requested by the exams officer or headteacher, for example:
- Supervising clash candidates between exam sessions
- Facilitating access arrangements for candidates, for example, printing word processed scripts, timing and recording rest breaks or being a prompter, reader or scribe. (full training will be provided)

- A confident and reassuring presence to candidates in exam rooms

- Able to follow detailed instructions accurately
- Able to work with others as part of a close-knit team
- Able to adapt and be flexible
- Able to invigilatefor several hours at a time, if required
- Able to both stand and walk around the exam room throughout a session of several hours
- An appreciation of the key issues involved in invigilation and conducting examinations
- Experience of working within a schoolis an advantage but not essential
