OK-AHEAD Board Meeting

Attendees: Kaye Ellis, Chimene Long, Sande Johnson, Sharla Weathers, and Yolanda Williams
Minutes: Were emailed out earlier today. Any corrections/additions please let Kaye and Sharla know; otherwise they are ready to be posted on the website.
Treasurer report: The current balance is $6,961.37. The Fall 09 conference costs so far are $1011.21. There are still outstanding costs (i.e. TSHA/interpreters) have not received bill yet. Chimene will follow-up with TSHA.
Institute Evaluations: Overall, OK-AHEAD got good feedback. The evaluation results are included in the information previously sent out for today’s meeting. The Board conferred that the results were good.
AHEAD Updates: Next affiliate meeting has not been announced yet. Just a reminder that AHEAD memberships for individuals and institutions are due in January.
Committee Reports
Scholarship – The new scholarship application is up and ready for disbursement via email.
By-laws – Will begin soon. Anyone wanting to join this committee is welcome to do so.
Items of interest: The U.S. GAO published a report on Higher Education and Disability in October 2009. It is available online at It includes not only a discussion of more governmental resources for sharing accommodation information and providing technical assistance but also includes recent statistics on college students with disabilities.
Spring Conference Planning:
- The Board needs to discuss potential dates, location and a theme.
- Dates:
- Jan Hatch informed the Board that she would not be available the 3rd and 4th week in April.
- Possible Dates April 8-9 and March 26-27, or March 29-30.
- It has typically been an all-day Thursday and half a day Friday.
- UCO has Disability Awareness Week beginning March 29th
- Location:
- Sande Johnson will check into utilizing the Moore-Norman Technology Center who uses Sodexo as their caterers.
- Theme:
- Will be determined at a later time.
- Sub-committees for the Spring Conference will be set up in the near future.
Potential Board Members: Kim Eason from the State Career Tech Office to possibly fill Kahle’s position.
Other: The next Board meeting will be determined at a later time via email when all Board members can coordinate the most opportune time late January/early February. Chimene reminded the Board that the conference brochures need to be ready mid-February. More information was to follow in email.
