Call to order

Coalbank Dam Inspection began at 9:00 a.m.

Leonecalled to order the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the West Greeley Conservation District Board of Supervisors at 11:00a.m.on Monday,June 13, 2016.

NRCS REPORT

Rusty Norrie/NRCS-District Conservationist

  • CRP– Required to do site visits on at least 10% of accepted offers but plan to visit as many as possible
  • EQIP – Perimeter Fencing Partnership with WGCD
  • 50% NRCS
  • 25% WGCD up to $10,000
  • 75% total Co-Contract with land owner
  • CSP – no report
  • HEL – no report

STAFFand HOUSTON GARDEN REPORTS

  • Houston Garden – Conklin’s status report for the Garden:
  • Barbed wire fencing – estimated removal was too high; consider looking for more bids
  • Concrete Spillway is leaking – may need more concrete
  • Windbreak Planting will begin after Home & Garden Tour
  • Audubon Garden is completed
  • Demo Garden is almost completed
  • Conservation Technician Update (Liz Schneider)
  • Gilcrest Dewatering Project –House bill funded. Tony Mello has reviewed the contract
  • CSFS Nursery – June 29
  • Outreach and Education Technician (Sarah Maisonneuve)
  • CSU Project – pollinator project in 2017 at Houston Garden
  • Confluence Institute – July 26-29
  • District 6 Food Service – Farm to School
  • Camp Rocky – July 10-16
  • Small Grants – Simpson moved to approve verbiage as follows. Seconded by Becker
  • . Motion passed. Make available at $1500 per month and occasionally up to $10,000 for Small Grants focusing on the following:
  • Conservation (wildlife, soils, water, recycling/composting, renewable, energy, etc.)
  • Science Education (and/or)
  • Connection between urban communications and agriculture
  • All Small Grant applications will have board approval before being awarded
  • DCT ( Jasen Kettle)
  • Conservation Boot Camp and ideas for conservation planning, working with landowners with technical assistance

NEW BUSINESS and REQUESTS FOR FUNDS

  • Confluence Institute –($800)Motion by Miller. Seconded by Simpson. Motion passed.
  • Xeriscaping Survey Drawing ($500) – Simpson moved to approve. Becker seconded. Motion passed.
  • Scholarship Announcement –($695) – Becker moved to approve announcements of scholarship recipients in the paper or other social media. Simpson seconded. Motion passed.
  • Gift Card to Richard Foose – ($250) – Simpson moved to approve a gift cardfor Richard Foose. Becker seconded. Motion carried.
  • Community Foundation Distribution - $4440 annual distribution received.
  • Small Grant Application – Greeley West High School – Norman Leonard – Miller moved to approve. Simpson seconded. Motion passed.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • Scholarships – Increased by $3000 due to more qualified applicants and approved as follows. Moved by Simpson. Seconded by Miller. Motion passed.
