The Immanuel and Helen Olshan TEXAS MUSIC FESTIVAL® (TMF) seeksa mature and responsible individual to fill ateam member position internship/part-time position in Housing from mid-May -July 2, 2018.
TMF Housing Staff work as part of a team, under supervision of the Housing Coordinator and in tandem with UH Residence Life and Housing, and monitor all TMF resident housing matters, including but not limited to maintenance problems, dining service issues, resolution of roommate conflicts, participant health needs, enforcement of curfew policies, and compliance with all UH Residence Life and Housing policies. TMF Orchestra Fellows and Housing Staff will be housed on the UH Campus during the festival.
Reporting to theHousing Coordinator, Associate Director, and the General Director, HousingStaff will have the following responsibilities:
- Assist with organizingshopping trips and activities off-campus for TMF orchestra participants during free time with Transportation Coordinator
- Assist Housing Coordinator with guest faculty and conductor housing needs, including check-in/check-out at Calhoun Lofts/Hilton, stocking loft apartments and verifying that apartmentsare ready for guest faculty occupancy, andassisting conductors with hotel check-in
- Assist Transportation Coordinator with driving vans for participants, faculty, conductors as needed
- Enforce UH Housing and Residence Life rules and quiet hours
Housing Staff may also be utilized as a page-turner or crew member for orchestra and chamber music concerts.
While experience in any or all of the above areas is desirable, the competencies and/or experiences that will best suit a potential applicant include:
1.Applicant must be 21 years of age by May 18, 2018, have reliable transportation, a valid State of Texas Drivers License, and already live in the Houston area. 2. Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills in representing the festival. 3. Excellent written communication skills. 4. Knowledge of, and a passion for, classical music/live performance. 5. Ability to successfully prioritize and organize tasks, and follow them through to completion. 6. Attention to detail. 7. Ability to work as a team player under pressure with multiple deadlines while maintaining a positive outlook and sense of humor.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Experience in residence life or other leadership 2. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and database management (Mac preferred) 3. Bachelor’s degree completed OR in progress with studies in music, music marketing OR music with a business/arts administration focus. 4. Familiarity with UH campus.
Compensation:This position will be part-time, approximately 5 - 10 hours per week starting in mid-May to July 2, 2018, but a flexible schedule is required, including availability during evenings and weekends throughout the festival. Housing Staff will move into Cougar Village on May 31, 2018 and move out on July 1 by 6 p.m. Three meals a day at Fresh Foods Company will be provided June 2 – July 1, 2018.Compensation is commensurate with experience and competitive for non-profit businesses.
This is an entry-level internship/part-time position; a completed bachelor’s degree is not required, although studies should be in progress.

About the Organization:Founded in 1990, the Immanuel and Helen Olshan TEXAS MUSIC FESTIVAL (TMF) is a non-profit organization, based at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, dedicated to providing exceptional music training for young professional musicians on the cusp of their careers. Each summer, TMF hosts a five week program for 350+ students the Houston area and throughout the world.
